I live in Florida and people from New York have a chip on their shoulder. Then to defend their horrible behavior they shout they're from New York. It's awful

I'm sorry. I should've said in general.

I think it is more about watching out for ones self that can come accross to outsiders as rudeness, but in reality it is self preservation. If you had to deal with the people that most NY'ers encounter on a daily basis you would come off as rude too. Especially as a woman-- sometimes you have to be "rude" to get creepy men/nasty people to leave you alone on the subway, for example. Don't look at it as people being rude, but rather them keeping to themselves and taking care of themselves. Here, if you dont watch out for yourself, no one else will.

I actually read a study once where they sent people to different cities and had them stage scenarios like dropping a stack of papers on the sidewalk or trying to open doors with hands full to see how many people were helpful and New York was one of the best cities. I think LA was like the worst.

My friend this is a terrible generalization. I am from New York and I am not a rude person at all. I hate rudeness and do not practice. I think that some New Yorkers are rude, but not all of us. When you live in New York you have an automatic suspicion of people. You wonder what they want and why they are looking at you. If you lived in the city you would develop this as well.

i dont think new yorkers are rude. as a fellow new yorker i feel that many tourists believe this because we are fast moving people. always on the go. i do get aggrivated with tourists when they stop in the middle of the street or are walking too slow but that is not there fault and i forget sometimes. new york moves a million miles an hour and we are used to doing things our way so this might come off as rude but welcome to our city. move it or lose it. if you come to new york you must move. we are tough people but we are not rude.

Well, I've been told that New Yorkers are generally freindly people; though not like those of Chicago, who in turn are not as friendly as those from Dallas or Austin, TX!

Others said that New Yorkers are arrogant and materialistic, so you're respected there according to your wealth and influence.

Regarding time, it's really money and gold in NYC; the same as for those who live in LA.

people are rude everywhere, get over yourself and the common stereotype your throwing out here.

Try living here, not visiting here, we aren't rude, we just dont have time for small-town, overweight, fatty tourists staring up at our accomplishments all the while walking 6-across on our already crowded sidewalks and claiming that they have done NY because they went to times square.

I think you are rude for making a sweeping generalization of 8.5 million people.

you transplant a native new yorker anywhere else in the world and they will survive and prosper...you transplant any person from the world into new york and chances are you will fail because its so hard here.

we are rough, tough, smart and sexy all rolled into one. im sorry if we offend you, try another place like backwoods alabama or kansas. leave real life for the adults, go play in the sandbox now

It sounds like you are running into the wrong crowd of people. I'm from NYC, and I understand what you mean, but I know not all people are like that. Being from NYC you become very proud. It is the # 1 or 2 city in the world, and just to be able to survive is an accomplishment. In a city like this people's attitudes and mindsets are different, especially those whom are not cultured from visiting other parts of the world.
But being from NYC is no excuse to act like an a$$h0le.

Actually, the rudest people come from Pennsylvania. I don't know why. (My cousin used to work for an airline, and she said all the rude people she came across came from PA.)

As a NY'er, I know I have no patience for people who are not as smart as I am or who don't work like I do. That might come across as rude, but this is me caring.... =)

New Yorkers are not rude. I happen to be one myself. I think its just our "dont care" attitude. I mean we live in a fast city where a lot goes on and we just dont have tolerance for some things. We are not rude just, very blunt. We say what a lot of people want to say and some people take offense. I live in GA now and I think that people from GA are rude as hell but, thats just me. I dont let it get to me tho.
