Although not as prevalent as years ago, some manufactures continue to place small products in unnecessarily large boxes or containers. Do you ever not purchase a product with excessive waste packaging? Do you ever contact the product manufacturer about the excessive packaging?

Yes -- I refuse to buy "individual" sizes of things that don't need them. I can cut up cheese myself, thanks! I hate the amount of over-packaged items out there today, just because we are too lazy to dump a box of cereal into smaller containers or put juice into a small jug ourselves. What a WASTE!

Actually I heard England is thinking about fining companies which has excessive packaging. I am getting fustrated that some products are wrapped in plastic several times, but I have not actually consciously avoided excess packaging. It maybe something easy for me to do to help out though, but I don't buy much.

Edit: Oh wait , I do like stuff individually wrapped. I guess I can avoid that, and try to buy bulk stuff.

I hadn't really thought about it before. If you are talking about packaging for things like software, that does bother me now that you make me think of it.
And kid's toys! There is so much wasted stuff used to make toys impossible to get out of the package.
We got a box the other day for a shipped item. It was almost the size of my front door! And it had one toy playset in it! On the one hand, the bigger boxes are more likely to be re-used and re-cycled, but it had to be stuffed with more paper and bubble wrap to fill in the gaps in the box.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I think I'll go write Amazon a little note about their shipping practices!

Yes, and yes. Although I can't really afford to be as picky as I'd like, I will pass up excessive packaging whenever I can.

I did write to General Mills once about their packaging but I'm sure it fell on deaf ears (or the waste basket). Anyway, I tried.

I would never purchase anything that is over-packaged. Apart from disrespect for the environment, elaborate containers are an excuse to up the price of goods. Good goods in small parcels!

They still do as an anti theft deterrent and is really hard to get around if it is something you need, from a sim card to saddle.
