There are so many good answers, I'm going to have a hard time choosing a best answer on this one ... except for the guy who said Starship Troopers was the best movie ever made ... that movie had the absolute worst dialouge I've ever heard. It sounds like a 12 year old did the adaptation from the novel.

Yeah I saw Whale Rider it was actually really good and I think you would like it.
As for my suggestion, I would say "The Pursuit of Happyness" (misspelled on purpose).
It's a based on a real life story and stars Will Smith. (It has nothing to do with religion, BTW). It's a great film, made me bawl and laugh and cheer all at the same time.

ONE! Sorry I can't...
Can you find Indian movies? Veer Zaara, Koi Mil Gaya and Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. are wonderful. Mr and Mrs Iyer will make you cry, (possibly). (All with English subtitles of course)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Heaven knows Mr Allison, To Catch a Thief (1955), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Bishop's Wife (1947), Any/all Marx Brothers movies, same with Hope and Crosby...
My Man Godfrey (1936) and the Thin Man series.
School of Rock,
The Taming of the Shrew (Burton/Taylor version)
Of course the real Godzilla and other monster movies. Mothra too.
The Incredible Mr. Limpet and other animation have wonderful movies also. Remember Heavy Metal - that was a great movie...

''Being John Malkovich''. It's just a messed up movie.Has Cameron diaz playing a bisexual crazed dope addict who loves animals which is even weirder. But the story of it is just f'ed up.
''Welcome to the dollhouse'' I like, too.
''Citizen Kane'',is a very good movie. But dont watch it if you cant appreciate black and white films!!
''The Elephant Man'' is both heart warming and very very tragic.I bet you will cry in this one.Everybody did. It's a really sad story about a man who had a real bad tumor caused by an elephant who trampled his mom she was still pregnant with him.His mom abandoned him and they used this very kind man as a circus freak. It's horrible, but it's beautiful at the same time because he was such a caring person. This is also a true story.Must see.

"Brother sun, Sister moon" by Director: Franco Zeffirelli. It is a movie about Saint Francis of Assisi. Some of it really made me laugh, there were also sad parts... but there is a very wonderful and spiritual meaning throughout the whole movie and I really loved it... it has alot of beautiful scenes and music. I think it was made around 1972. Also, "Jesus" film, 1980. By "Inspirational films, Inc" and "The Nativity Story" that was just released last year they're a couple of my favorites...
