I earlier posted about a GSD temprament problem and NOBODY gave a response to help. What happend to all the GOOD advice from the people who KNEW what they are doing!!!! If any of you know anything about GSDs that show you'd know that they are the ONLY breed that need a temprament test at a confromation dog show! One and for some of you who are a little "slow" GSD means German Shepherd Dog! Where is Torbay Newfs when you need her?!?!? I am very disapointed with some people who let there MUTTS get pregnant becouse they are to ignorant to keep there dog in there yard!!! Also why would you ask on how many times you need to check on your whelping *****???????? Isn't it commin sence that you STAY WITH HER until she is done??? How would you like to be delivering a few kids with no help becouse the doctor dosn't know when to check on you??? I know I wouldn't be ok with that!!!!!! I will not ask for advice here anymore till I find some people who know what they are doing!!!

ok first off if you really "Show your dogs" then you would know about OTHER breeds aswell as your own!!!! I know what I am doing and I need some tips and I am showing her becouse she has some very nice quality and her temprament needs some work yes but thats what I am asking for help with!! Terbay Newfs knows about training dogs who have problems to fix them, so before you go off on me about how I shouldn't ask for help from a newfie person and showing Voom, maybe you should accually do some research about torbay newfs about her and see that she is a VERY resourceful person!!! I know about other breeds even though I show GSDs Breeders know standards for other breeds even though they don't breed them or show them. Also I don't think you know that it is agenst the RULES of AKC to have ANY double handling at shows!!!!!!! Only at specialties where they don't protect that rule will you find that people do it! And for your information I don't do it!!

OK the correct question is does anyone know about showing GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS. Torby Newfs has NEWFOUNDLANDS. I have whippets and while I know bout showing them and know about the formal temperament test - I have not seen the gear for that in the German Shep ring. Nor have I spotted a lot of unusual procedures (other than a heck o' lot of double handling) I wonder if you are referring to the individual exam - which all breeds do....
general advice to help a spook which may be useful or not: work through issues you need to expose them to lots of things and the one thing you particularly want MANY times. starting with small non scary exposure. When my one whippet pup was scared of the bang of the start box I sat behind the box (gradually getting closer to it) for an entire meet before I made her get in one- and that one was the quietest one I could find. so start with the neutral stranger to walk up & greet YOU and ignore her get 412 people to feed her treats (first without a pet then moving up). Try an obedience class the stand for exam will help and the class exposure to many dogs will help...and hey a CD isn't a bad thing to have!

Edit: Into ranting are you? Since you know all about other breeds: How do you muzzle train a whippet?

The puppy does sound adore it has emerge as ring smart and regrettably I should not have any recommendation for an ordeal arising so quickly however for long term trials you must begin getting into tons of correctionals or train/amusing suits. They are installed to have the appear and believe of a truly trial however in contrast to a truly trial while she acts up within the ring you are going to be in a position to right her. This will make her consider two times approximately performing up within the ring considering she could have obtain corrections there too and she is going to certainly not realize while a she could also be corrected within the ring. You can discover correctionals or train/amusing suits in obedience or breed golf equipment. Just pass to their web pages and appear via the web page. Most golf equipment do amusing suits the equal day every month so you'll pass to a couple of every month. As lengthy as she does no longer rise up or lie down at the take a seat, it is just elements off with a few judges so if it's not that unhealthy (it does not sound too unhealthy if you're putting within the best 3) you would simply forget about the habits.

What exactly have you tried? "Tons" doesn't help.

Can you get a group together and run through a similar temperment test multiple times? Or if you attend conformation classes, can you get the instructor to do this before every class? It's all I can really think of that you could do. If you can get her used to it, perhaps reward for the behaviour you're looking for, she may get over any issue she's having with the test. Some dogs just get thrown off when they have to do something like that.

Good luck with it.

I am NOT trying to be hateful or rude but if your dog is excessively shy then DONT show her , spay her and either keep her as a pet or place her as one and get a puppy with proper temperment. Trying to put a band aid on temperment issues is why the GSD breed is shot in the US as it is! The purpose of conformation shows is to procure good breeding prospects and a dog with a poor or even questionable temperment should NOT be bred under any circumstances regardless of how beautiful it might be.
