I went to the World Environment Day website and read some examples of activities that are being done. The theme concerns the melting polar ice caps and there were some interesting facts about carbon emissions.

As for myself, I just didn't use my car today, kept my a/c at 78 degrees, worked in my vegetable garden, didn't watch any TV, ran a full dishwasher, cooked at home and didn't use any prepackaged or preprocessed food items.

Yes, there are many shipping lanes still dangerous due to piracy. "Reports of piracy attacks were declining worldwide since 2004, but seems to have bottomed out in 2007.[24] Figures reported by the International Maritime Bureau indicate incident reporting fell for the third year in a row in 2006. Ships reported 239 incidents to the IMB during the year 2006, down from 276 in 2005, and 329 in 2004.[25] But the piracy rose by 14 percent in the first nine months of 2007."

If possible, we run fan only on furnace circulating air through the house, instead of the air conditioner, all night long.

Windows are open on breezy days.

We keep a container at every sink for: at the bathroom sink, to collect the cold water before a shave, in the kitchen to collect dirty water to water the flower gardens, collect clean water to water pets/fish tank, clean off the front porch.

Removed the nozzle from the outside faucet so the children can't waste water.
Timed showers and buckets in the shower in the summer to collect water for watering gardens.
Collect rainwater.
We have drought resistant grass and do not cut our grass short.
Combine errands so they can be done at once, preferably once a week.
Shred and use junk mail in our pet guinea pig cage. Then we compost it in our garden.
We use cloth napkins at the table and rags for cleaning.

flushing everyother time i use the toilet. and to the guy upset about an earth day, people do need days and events to remind them of what is important. to some people recycling is a nessessary and integral part of their lives, but alot of people just dont understand how we are affecting life on earth. these "movements" are all new expressions of some values we have misplaced. no party owns earthday, dude. we're just trying to get people to be informed and empowered to make a diference. this has only been going on for about 40 years- moments in earth time; give it a chance to help us evolve. we are humans on the earth before we are any political affiliation.

Smelly sweat is under arm pits etc. One does not need a complete shower to clean one selves. So I wash regularly, only parts of my body and hands of course and use deodorants. A shower ones every three days saves lots of water and energy since there is less water to heat up too.

We already have an Earth day. Why do we need another one of these "political environmental" days. Frankly I don't like the fact that one group of people is trying to claim a monopoly on the environment and days like this just make it worse.

At this point everyone already knows how to conserve, recycle, and just generally not be wasteful. These are the best things you can do and they can be done on a daily basis, we don't need a day to remind us of this.

i'm pressuring the islamic scholars in Saudi to make it haram or not permitted for muslims to use styrofoam food packaging and cups, disposable diapers, solid hardwood for doors, non segregation of trashes and have it recycle, burning of trashes. etc.
This would then make it sinful not to care for the environment, worst that killing humans is killing this earth.
