I have been taking roughly 2 to 5 vicodins a day since december 2006. I am dead set determined to quit now. I don't crave them at all, even when I stopped for a couple days, but the ONLY withdrawel I seem to get is the legs cramps. I don't want advice saying to see my doctor because at the moment I have no insurance. And I dont want to hear to turn to methodone or other drugs to ease off. I want off the drugs, not subsitute one for another. I would like to hear any advice at all on beating the leg cramps. Hot baths help but only when I'm in the tub, and leg rubs work well from my fiance but he can only rub so much. Ibuprofin does nothing. They become so bad I will wake at all hours of the night almost in tears, twisting and turning my legs in every direction. I would also like to know honestly about how long the leg cramps will last but I would like to hear from someone who has gone through this themselves and not someone guessing please. Thank you very much

I was taking them for a tooth ache. At the time I thought nothing of it, I had never dealt with any sort of drug and didn't realize the level of addiction from vicodin. My dentist prescribed me 380 pills and said take 4 a day as needed then he refilled after 3 months and from there I got the addiction. I stopped for 2 days but the leg cramps were keeping me from sleeping and I could barely walk. The pain was so intense I cried all night so finally I caved and took one, I know I can suffer through it, but it would help tremendously knowing how long the cramps will last. I am so scared because I was told by a friend they will be nightly for atleast 2 months.

I have no doubts the leg cramps are a vicodin withdrawel. I have never had them before in my life, only when I started the vicodin, a few months in and if I waited longer than normal to take a vicodin the leg cramps would set in. Within minutes of taking one the cramps are completely gone. Like I said I am 33 and have never had a leg cramp in my life, yet once I start the vicodin they start, plus everything I read on, its one of the common withdrawel symptoms. So I'm 100% positive it's from the vicodin.

Ok, the easiest way to do this is called the step down system. Start taking less and less pills, one day at a time. Only take 1 to 2 ONLY when you get the leg cramps to kill the leg cramp pain. And you will start getting the cramps less and less. I guarantee this will work and it will take only a week, or maybe a little less. Magnesium, Valarien root, and dipenhydramine are all also great ways to relieve leg cramps. If you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me and i will help anyway I can. supermankangaroo@yahoo.com
Hope this helps

I don't know about the withdrawal symptoms, but for the leg cramps, take potassium supplements or eat bananas. Don't overdo it on the potassium though (just one pill a day) or you could royally screw up your kidneys.

Why are you taking the Vicodin? Were you injured or just taking them for fun?

I have leg cramps, how do you know that it's from withdrawal of vicodin? how do you know it's not a considered disease? that 's what I have and I take Requip for it.
I have had my blood pressure considered, the flow of blood, muscle tissue, everything. My sister and several others I know have all the same thing so, maybe this isn't withdrawal but something you haven't considered.

I also suffer from leg cramps and looked on-line for
help. I found a site that says that they could be from a lack of potassium or vitamin B-12. Maybe it will work for you to try some multi-vitamins.

Reduce your intake of Vicodin by a half a pill a week.

At the same time, exercise your legs and eat bananas.
