We are trying to eat more healthy. However, I can't cut out the fish in our diet. Its a family favorite. Salmon and yellowfin tuna and shrimp. Is that honestly okay? I mean... I know we aren't following it to the "t" but is it really wrong to keep the fish?

You are pescetarians. Meaning the only meat you eat is fish/seafood.

If you are trying to eat healthy, that is great. You don't need to have the label of vegetarian to be eating healthy! :) Even though you would not be considered a vegetarian if you ate fish, it is still better for your health than eating other meat.

No one can tell you if it is "wrong" to eat fish. Many vegetarians believe that killing a fish is no different that killing any other animals. They feel pain, stress, and anxiety just like anything else, the only difference is, they cannot show it like other animals. However if you are doing it for health reason this probably does not matter to you.

From a health perspective, some studies have shown that eating too much fish can cause health problems(British Medical Journal). Fish’s bodies absorb toxic chemicals in the water around them, and the chemicals become more concentrated as they move up the food chain. Big fish eat little fish, with the bigger fish (such as tuna and salmon) absorbing chemicals from all the other fish they eat. Fish flesh stores contaminants, such as PCBs, which cause liver damage, nervous system disorders, and fetal damage; dioxins, also linked to cancer; radioactive substances like strontium 90; and other dangerous contaminants like cadmium, mercury, lead, chromium, and arsenic, which can cause health problems ranging from kidney damage and impaired mental development to cancer.

If you cannot cut out the fish, then do not stress over it. I always feel that at least you are doing something for your health. Meat is unhealthy and by cutting it out you are reducing your risks of certain cancers, hearth problems, etc.

Good luck, and remember if you change your mind you can always cut the fish from your diet later, or gradually over time.

There are a lot of good answers already. Whatever you are comfortable is good. Vegetarian is a loose term. Vegans don't eat any animal products. Strict vegans wont eat jello (processed with bones) or honey because it requires the work of bees. But there are also ovovegetarians (eat eggs), lactovegetarians (eat dairy), pesco (fish), etc. Many people combine the terms such as lacto-ovo-vegetarian. Any way to incorporate veggies is a good thing. Feel good about what you're doing.

Pescetarians eat fish, as well as shellfish, crustaceans, and the like, but exclude all meats derived from animals which dwell on land and sometimes animal products. The word pesco is usually assumed to derive from the Latin for fish, piscis, but the vowel e suggests the influence of a Romance language such as Spanish or Italian.

Sorry, by definition a vegetarian eats no meat. Fish is a meat.

It's good you are trying to be healthier, however far you take it, or don't take it.

If you really want to give yourself a label, you can call yoruselves "pescetarians" or tell people "The only meat we eat is fish"

you are not a vegetarian if you eat fish. end of story. I'm tired of people saying they're vegetarian meanwhile they still eat fish. that's absurd!

Well you could just become pescetarian. You can basically eat fish and shell-fish, just not land animals & mammals and stuff.
