Contrary to the popular belief that it's quite rare -
everybody knows somebody who is a carrier of the HIV Virus
The chances of catching it depend entirely on the risks you take .

It depends, you can sleep with loads of people and not catch anything. Or you can sleep with one person and end up with HIV.
The chances are high if you have unprotected sex and share needles with people. Donated blood for transfusions is screened now, so the chances of catching it that way are minimal.
You can't catch it from kissing anyone, or sharing a drink.

The chances of you catching hiv kind of depends on rather you use protection during any kind of sexual activity.
if you don't know if you have hiv or if your partner has hiv, be sure and use protection , just to be on the safe side!
the other thing is, you can get yourself and your partner tested to find out.

Well, it depends on your lifestyle. Are you a IV drug abuser, a prostitute, or simply promiscuous and don't use condoms for protection? Do you engage in anal sex without condoms?
Bottom line is that HIV is transmitted through any contact with an infected bodily fluid such as blood, urine, saliva or any genital fluid such as semen, or vaginal secretions. If you come in contact with these fluids regularly then you are at a high risk of getting HIV.
Protect yourself.
Even then your partner may not know they have it. This is why you should use protection with everyone you have sex with. Cause they may have it and not know it.

Casual everyday contact in the general population, not much. If you engage in high risk activities, like intravenous drug use (sharing needles), unprotected sex, exchange of bodily fluids with known HIV positive persons, then much greater, of course!

You're putting yourself at risk of getting HIV any time you have unprotected oral, anal, or vaginal sex with anyone who tests positive for the disease. There is also a risk of getting it from positive individuals if you share drug needles.

God, this is vague. Well, um 0 % if you never have sex, don't share needles, and never had a blood transfusion.
Now from a sex standpoint, your risk goes as follows:
Highest risk (receiving unprotected anal sex)
High (receiving unprotected vaginal sex)
High--Medium (giving unprotected vaginal and anal sex)
Medium (giving oral sex)
Low (receiving protected anal or vaginal sex, e.g, the condom breaks)
There has found to be no risk in receving oral sex so far.
