I am a type 2 diabetic. Before eating I will typically be between 85 and 100 and 1-2 hours after eating a healthy meal my level will peak at 180-200. I thought the ideal was to stay under 140??

You are absolutely correct that the normal for a non-diabetic and the ideal (remember however that the ideal is not always possible) for a type 2 diabetic is a glucose excursion of 70 to 140 mg/dL daily - day and night - irrespective of what when and how much you eat. Your post-prandial after meal glucose excursion is simply unacceptably high. Fortunately we now have a number of medications specifically designed for this situation. The most recent - having been released last year - and one which I have used extensively is sitagliptin phosphate or Januvia. If your physician is not familiar with it please ask them to look it up. If you would like more specific information about how this drug works please let me know. I learned in the diabetes education class that peaking at 180 - 200 is normal shortly after a meal.

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/Zwl1J

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.

You're right, it should be under 140 two hours after starting the meal. You may need to adjust your food plan and/or medication.
You need to see your diabetes educator/nutritionist.

Fasting should be 80-120. 2 hrs after eating should be less than 180. Checking at other times doesn't really tell you anything, just wastes testing supplies.
