Fried is not too bad if you use olive oil, which is too expensive (especially deep fried or pressure fried).

Baked is good and versatile.

Here is another one, how about steamed? For veggies mostly.

For about $30 to $40 bucks you can get a decent steamer that stacks up, not like those Chinese dimp sum bamboo steamer but a nice modern one.

Steaming keeps veggies their color and most of the crispiness as well as the nutrients.

Baked foods of course. I can't take too much fried food because the oil will upset my stomach and I will have to visit the toilet very often.

I love baked naan breads! They are my favourite baked bread!

My mom has lost almost 80 pounds with Weight Watchers and she's got the whole family eating good. BUT every once in a while she fries things. She uses this type of oil called Smart Balance (i think that's what its called) to fry different things. It has half the fat of regular oil and tastes just the same.

So I guess what my point is... baked foods are better for you... but every once in a while fried is ok if you do it the right way :)

I like any kind of food and that caused me to have a weight problem. So I began to eat less fried foods. I like grilled meat, but I don't have a good place for a grill, so that leaves baking and that's what I prefer now.

Interesting how food choices and tastes change over a period of time. I grew up in the South and Sunday dinner (noon, after church) was always a feast. It usually was Southern Fried chicken (delish!!!) with lots of vegetables as side dishes, usually mashed potatoes, green beans flavored with ham or pork which were cooked very tender, English (green) peas, a salad of some kind and perhaps coconut cake (I remember hammering the coconut, pouring out the coconut milk and gratiang the coconut for my mom to put on her homemade yellow cake (no mixes there!). Another meal was a baked pot roast with all the trimmings or a smoked Baked Ham with also lots of vegetables. Another dessert was a fruit cobbler- usually blackberry (which we picked on our own land and my mom canned for later use), or peach which came off the trees in the back yard. Those were absolutely wonderful meals.
Now, we eat fast food hamburgers - usually grilled or baked chicken in a salad from the fast food restaurant. We have learned a lot about eating healthy and for those of us that cook at home, we are all more motivated to bake foods more often than fry them because of health issues. I try to make some home "comfort food" every once in a while. My family likes meat loaf and I end up making meat loaf by the old Quaker Oats recipe with adding in a little more spice to my family's taste. It is a great general recipe and used to appear on every box of Quaker Oats - don't think it is there anymore. There are like 30 recipes for meat loaf in the meat section of my favorite recipe book. I am 58, hardly ever even open a recipe book anymore because I know how we like our food and cook by the pinch of this/pinch of that method now. This is not good - I remember asking my grandmother how she made something and that is the answer (it takes a long time to fine tune how much someone else's "pinch" is.)
Anyway, cooking is necessary to feed us, fun to do with others, fun to do for ourselves (we can make things exactly as we want them)! Happy Baking and Frying. Just eat a healthy - varied - diet with a wide variety of foods and try to keep down the fats and sugars so we are not clogging our arteries too much. Food is a great social tool and brings families together for special meals. Example: family reunion dinners, church potlucks, old fashioned "dinner on the ground" at Southern churches, the proverbial "dinner out" as a special time. Happy eating. ***Note: All fun aside, I packed on more pounds than was wise. Rather than crash dieting, I have chosen to remove 5 pounds at a time, splurge a bit so I don't feel cheated, then 5 more. Have lost 45 lbs. over 2 years. I feel better, walk better, etc. I do eat a lot of baked and boiled chicken (white chicken) and sometimes baked fish although it is not my favorite (I come from catfish country and it is too good fried!) My downfall is cheese!

Baked and broiled is healthier but there's no substitute for fried shrimp, one of my very favorite foods. So I save my "friedfoodtime" for shrimp.
