In my opinion they would rather not for the simple reason that a LOT of people that end up on dialysis later in life have diabetes. So for you it would be best to keep both your kidneys. The doctors never want to endanger the future health of any kidney donors and because of that they probably would turn you down but for your own good.

I hope that is understandable. Dialysis is not someone anyone wants to go through. Trust me. I am 33 and have been on dialysis now for 6 years ... man I want a kidney :(

I also wanted to add that the guy who said that if you have diabetes you could give it to the recipient who you give the kidney to .. it does NOT work like that! When they talk about dialysis patients and diabetes it is only about what I already mentioned here.

A physician must assess the overall health of the donor and the health of their kidney. It should be noted that diabetes is an underlying cause of kidney failure. In addition to having the blood and tissue profiles similar to the recipient, the donated kidney must be healthy and the donor must be health enough for the operation.

I not sure about this. I guess it could happen as it may be a better option for the recipient. But, it best to ask a Doctor on this, as, it may be an option if need be, but, may be considered a last option.
From the links it may be more a problem for the Donar as Diabetes can affect the Kidneys.

Diabetes can "damage your kidneys", eyes, nerves, heart and blood vessels, and increase your risk for:
Heart attacks
Strokes
Chronic kidney disease.
