There is no scientific data to support the idea that artificial sweeteners are damaging to your health. They have been studied extensively and found to be safe.
Diet soda, however, has a lot of sodium in it. It makes you thirsty, which makes you drink more of it... If he has a blood pressure problem, this is not helping.
I have read the studies, and I believe that while it's not bad for you, it's not good either. It's an expensive addiction. Moderation would be my advice. (wish I could take my own advice, btw)

Yeah if he is going to drink soda then diet soda is the best and really only choice. Water is the best thing for a diabetic as it helps lower the blood glucose. If he has been diabetic for a while than he probably knows that all ready. My doctor told me another side effect of diet soda is people think “I had a diet coke so I can have a few more calories”. As long as your dad isn't adding sugars or calories because he only drinks diet soda then let him enjoy it. If the chemicals in it start to have any adverse effect the doctor will catch it.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.
I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/a6JKm
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting
Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men
If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

About the worst thing known at this point is contribute to dehydration. Soda, alcohol, juice, tea, etc, should not be used to replace pure water. To know how much water to drink, take your body weight, divide by 2; drink that much water in ounces daily. Anything else you drink has to be added to that, it does not replace any of the water.
Now, down the line, we may find out the aspartame they use to sweeten diet soda may cause harm, but it's still on the market. It's a problem for people with fibromyalgia, but no others I know about.

Diet pepsi/coke is what your dad should be drinking. It isn't made with real sugar. It's sweetened with artificial sweetners. Better watch though.... those artificial sweetners act as a laxative. Try getting your dad to drink a little more water instead of all that soda. It will help to lower his blood glucose.

Diabetes wise diet soda is nothing. Read the list of chemicals you are throwing down your throat. This stuff rots you from the inside out. Ever heard of water?

There exists a major controversy concerning pesticides and other harmful chemicals in bottled products including Coca-Cola. In 2003, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a non-governmental organization in New Delhi, said aerated waters produced by soft drinks manufacturers in India, including multinational giants PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, contained toxins including lindane, DDT, malathion and chlorpyrifos — pesticides that can contribute to cancer and a breakdown of the immune system. Tested products included Coke, Pepsi, and several other soft drinks, many produced by The Coca-Cola Company. CSE found that the Indian produced Pepsi's soft drink products had 36 times the level of pesticide residues permitted under European Union regulations; Coca-Cola's soft drink was found to have 30 times the permitted amount. CSE said it had tested the same products sold in the US and found no such residues.[44] After the pesticide allegations were made in 2003, Coca-Cola sales declined by 15%. In 2004, an Indian parliamentary committee backed up CSE's findings, and a government-appointed committee was tasked with developing the world's first pesticide standards for soft drinks. The Coca-Cola Company has responded that its plants filter water to remove potential contaminants and that its products are tested for pesticides and must meet minimum health standards before they are distributed.[45] In the Indian state of Kerala, sale and production of Coca-Cola, along with other soft drinks, was initially banned, before the High Court in Kerala overturned the ban ruling that only the federal government can ban food products.

Well, I can say that he is definitely staying away from sugar but the artificial sweeteners are not doing any justice for his body. If he was my dad I would have him completely get off of sodas in general. In terms of sweeteners there are several that do not spike your insulin/glucogon levels one being stevia and the other being Xylitol both are a lot better for you in general specially if you are diabetic. Other artificial sweeteners are junk and I would not give it to my worst enemy. Good Luck.
