Medicine can effect the heart but the symptoms usually disappear after the medicine is withdrawn.

A weird heart beat is called a murmur :)
It is usually caused by Rheumatic fever and sometimes by birth defects or improper growth during the formative years.

I wish I knew more about what 'weird ' means to you. Is it irregular ? In other words if you count the heart rate for a minute, how many times is there a skip or not -rhythmic beat? The medications could do that, but it sounds like it has been many years since he was on them. Could he be on any medication now? Maybe you could have him get an EKG ( cardiogram) which could help see how serious it is. Tell him its just precautionary and probably nothing. If it is chronic, he may need a cardioversion or some medication to straighten it out so he wont collapse.
