All female mammals (cows, cats, humans, etc) will continue to produce milk as long as it is extracted, either thru nursing or pumping. It is a question of supply and demand. Their bodies just work that way.
However, humans are the only animals that continue to drink any kind of milk into adulthood (or after weaning for that matter). Morality aside, milk is not an essential nutritional factor in an adult's life. But, my mashed potatoes don't come out the same without it.

Well, think about it. Why is it human beings are the only creatures that continue to drink milk after they have been weaned. As far as your question, 10 days, please tell me you're joking! Do you believe brown cows give chocolate milk too? A cow, like a human being, only gives milk after it has had a baby (farmers call them calves). Then the little calves are taken away from them to become veal. The farmer continues to milk them. When the cow dries up, she has to be bred again. Such is the life of a dairy cow, a breeding machine. And when she's too old to knock out more calves and can't be milked anymore, she goes to the slaughterhouse and you get to have her as a Big Mac, and Spot gets his beef dog food from the rest of her. And they most certainly do have breasts Kathy, it's just that they're called udders on a cow. And the machine goes on their teats.

Cows are pregnated over and over again so that they constantly supply milk. The milk they produce is for their babies NOT HUMANS. The baby cow is taken away from its mom and sometimes turned into veal.
These dairy cows have been genetically modified over the years to produce more milk then they would many years ago. So with their babies taken away and unable to drink the milk, plus the extra production, it can be painful for the cow if its not milked.
If you consume dairy products you might as well be eating meat and wearing leather because both products come from this industry as well.

I have one more thing to add, otherwise, everything else has been touched on. The way the cows are impregnated is rape with a tube or other device. Male cows are sexually manipulated first to obtain the semen, then the female cows are forceably impregnated. Their production DOES wear down, which is why they are raped/impregnated again.
The whole process is not only against any feminist or holistic peaceful approach to all life, but also sexually abusive and a destruction of a familial relationship that would exist without human interference.

Cows give milk as long as they are being milked. (Milking is done by putting a machine on their udders.) Milking does not hurt the cow. In fact, they stand calmly and sometimes eat while being milked. Milk cows are not "breast feeding", they are plain and simple "milk cows" used for giving milk.
I can't answer your question as to whether or not nature wants us to drink cows milk though. You'll have to come to your own conclusion.
