Where do I find these? Are they available in grocery stores?
Are there any fresh available?

Fresh bay leaves are often available in the produce section of stores in metropolitan areas.

There is no appreciable difference in the flavoring quality of fresh versus dried.

They are also known as laurel leaves...like you see depicted in Roman and Greek crown wreaths.

There is not really any substitute for their unique flavor. they keep for a loooong time if sealed up and a little goes a long way.

Most commonly used in pot roasts , stews., and hearty soups in American cooking.

I've never seen fresh in the markets. You can find dried whole bay leaves in the spice section of your grocery store.

Bay Laurel is extremely high in vitamin e.
It has many health benefits
It is an antiseptic (Kills Bacteria)
Anti - fungal (Kills Fungi)
Astringent (Has a drying action - clots blood)
Analgesic (Sooths pain)
If you brew a strong tea of bay leaves and dampen a bandage with it, it will heal a cut within 2 days. Same for a burn.
If you put a bay leaf into the boiling water when you are steaming vegetables, it gives a wonderful aroma and flavor to the food.
I keep some bay tea in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for emergency first aid.
OLIVE LEAVES are also antiseptic and are also anti-viral. In winter I drink a tea of bay leaves, olive leaves and rose-hips (which are high in vitamin c). I haven't had a cold or flu in years.

Cutegirl,
The simplest way to have a constant supply of bay leaves is to go to your nearest garden centre and purchase a bay plant.

You can either keep it in a pot or plant it in your garden, where (if looked after) will provide you with a constant supply of 'fresh' bay leaves.

Bay is a wonderful herb with a brillient aroma and will enhance most foods (specially rice).

You don't eat the leaf, but pop three or four into your dish while it's cooking, and remove when your food is cooked!

They're available in most any supermarket in the spice section. They'll be dried and in a jar. Bigger supermarkets will have them fresh beside the other herbs in the produce aisle. Get fresh if you can, the flavor is incredible.

They sell both fresh and dried in most grocery stores.

Make sure the dried ones are nice and green. Spend a little extra for the ones in a glass jar, you'll be glad you did.

yes they are available at any grocery store, they look like leaves and are green (dried), they usually come in a small or meduim square packaging. they have it at food 4 less, ralphs, vons, albertsons etc...

they do have the fresh kind, but you have to go to the FRESH section of the store, you know where they have all of the fruit and veggies, cheese, over there, they are usually in a container. and they taste so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
