On an average day, for lunch, I will eat:
1 cereal-sized bowl of salad
an orange or apple
1 cereal-bowl sized portion ofSteamed vegetables, (carrots, green & wax beans, sometimes cauliflower or broccolli in there too) or a less than-cereal-sized bowl of pasta.
Celery, and water.
On some days I will eat 3 or 4 crackers and some peanut butter, but only if I'm really hungry or forgot to eat breakfast ;)
It is unfortunate that my school does not provide many vegetarian dishes that are not pre-packaged. ( I will not use styrofoam )

As far as school lunch goes, they might have chef salads which will come with a boiled egg. Those are good in protein. You could also bring a single serving of nuts in to put in the salad. They are in plastic but plastic is recyclable. You could also buy nuts from your supermarket by getting them from the produce or natural section where they're sold in bins. That way you could package them in paper sacks.
Hope it helps.

I can't believe how uneducated some of you people are about food.
A few things:
You CAN'T get a good, complete source of protein from anything other than meats. Soy/legume/plant protein is not meat protein. Veganism is NOT a healthy lifestyle and is actually very dangerous.
And don't eat a raw egg, unless you want Salmonella.
Eat a can of tuna, if you eat fish. Low fat, high protein, low cals.

It is difficult to consume complete protein without eating meat. The easiest way is to combine beans and rice. Otherwise you are not getting all of the essential amino acids. Soy is one of the best sources of high-quality vegetarian protein. Calories are calories regardless of being carbo, fat, or protein, so just count your caloric intake.

Go to your local GNC store and ask them about protein drink mixes. They will help you out.
Another is to eat peanut butter, or lentils of some kind. Try an egg.

My favorite thing in the world..... 1 peanut butter, lasagna, pastas, also you could try the slimfast shakes. I know a body builder that used to drink one with every meal. He said they were filled with good stuff and added an extra 200 cals to his meals.

Get over to your local health food outlet and get some protein powder. The folks there can tell you how it's best used.

I noticed that someone suggested protien powder. Make sure you verify the source that the protien was derived from.
I am assuming that you would not want protien derived from eggs.
