I use the 30 setting and haven't noticed any difference and where possible I dry clothes naturally. On advantage of living on a hill is that there's usually a good breeze blowing
There's a scientific explanation and it's all to do with surfactants, more on Wikipedia here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surfactant

It depends on the wash. Contrary to the adverts, 30 doesn't clean everything, so the dirty stuff goes still on 40 and sometimes even on 60. I work part-time in a restaurant and sometimes my shirts get really dirty and they have to go at 60.
Having that said, I never use the tumble drier; it's not even plugged in in our house. Clothes dry just as well on the line.

My machine doesn't have a 30, so I use 40 for most things.
As for the drying, my washing is hung outside on the line whenever possible, if not, I have a good old fashioned wooden clothes horse.
On the very rare occasions when I use the tumble dryer, I only use the low heat, to resemble a summer breeze. Using the high heat not only wastes electricity but cooks the clothes and makes them smell and feel horrible.

my washing machine is rubbish enough at 40 so im a bit scared to put it down to 30 altho i do use a faster wash in an aim not to have it going as long.
Dont have a tumble dryer so if its nice it goes on the line or over the banister. Dont see the point of trying to get a dryer, it ruins my clothes when I have used one and really is so uneccesary for one person alone. I can see why a big family over the winter would struggle without one tho

I have absolutely no idea`what temperature it washes at. I just put the stuff in, press the button, and take it our at the end. I hang my clothes out to dry when they're done. I use the same setting for every wash, except wool. When that setting breaks I use another, it's quite easy really. I once tried using conditioner but it all ran down the back of the draw so I don't anymore. I have a fantastic drying device, it's called my bathroom curtain rail. In winter I put a golf club over a heater and dry my clothes that way. I have a good life.

I was colors on 30 and some whites on 40, because I have a 1 yr old who makes a mess 30 DOES NOT get tough stains out. I also use the tumble dryer.
The reasons I use it is NOT because I want to be eco friendly, as far as I care that is just another way to tax us, but because it saves me money.

My washing machine doesnt have a 30 degree wash so i use a 40.
Dont like the tumble dryer it shrinks things..or maybe i'm gettin fat..lol
But it uses a hell of a lot more energy than the washing machine so thats another reason i dont use it. It costs too much!

I now wash at 30, I don't understand really how it makes that much difference but if it benefits an some way then I don't have a problem doing it. My clothes look just as clean coming out as they did before

I wash at 35!
You get a nice balance of clean clothes and reduced energy costs.
I would stop using the tumble drier - if it stopped raining that is... ;-)
