dash mounted video camera's that capture the road in front of you..local law enforcement would pay YOU a bounty for every red light runner you capture on tape!! a car changes lanes in a intersection in front of you......CHA-CHING!!! more cash...that guy making a u-turn may only be a annoyance to some but to you, it could be money in the bank! i could get very wealthy doing this! heck, i live in st. louis, mo...i would be a millionaire within 6 months! and the crap about a better world would come from people being afraid to do anything stupid even though they see no cops around..

I don't mean to put salt on your tail, it is nice to see you are using the old noodle but here are just two reasons your idea won't be practical.

1#: before a citation can be issued for moving violations in most states, the person issuing the citation must be a sworn peace officer of that state, the action that caused the violation to be noticed must be visible from atleast two directions aka marked vehicle

#2: this kind of vigilanty vehicle volunteer would flood the courts and cost more in adjudication than it brings in, espeacially when you add in a bounty to boot

#3: once the public got savy to this "Rat Fink" operation any private vehicle so equipped with the devices you mentioned, when they were parked on the streets, the cops would be responding to Arson crimes all over the place,

I think you get the picture, again sorry for being salt on your tail, but keep on thinking sooner or later you will hit on that million dollar idea.

That's actually not a bad idea, but not for the purpose you've presented. I don't know how many times I've seen cases where people are at fault in traffic accidents and invent some wild story to blame the injured party. This might put a stop to that.

They could deduct what you owe for driving like an idiot, trying to catch people. And you'd have to split whatever you made with all of the other cars that also videotaped them.

Only if the camera would monitor the speed of the vehicle it was mounted in as well.

How about computers in cars that automatically give you a ticket everytime you drive over the speed limit or drive without your seatbelt?
