most people who ask you tell them the "honest" truth about something usually already know the answer before they even ask!!! I think they are just hoping most people will tell them what they WANT to hear rather than hurt their feelings with the truth.

It sounds like you had this happen to you. I am not sure what your question is. What I can tell you is sometimes you need to cushion the truth just a little. Being too honest is usually hurtful.

Some people really want affirmation, not the truth. Unfortunately, you don't know what they want to hear, so you have no choice but to tell them the truth. If they can't handle it, it is their problem, not yours. Find yourself better friends.

when someone says, tell me honestly, they really want confirmation of what they think, ie. tell me honestly do i look good in this jacket, if they look silly, but they think they look good really, they want you to say yes you do. even if they dont. if you say the truth, no you look silly, they dont wanna hear it, just conformation of what they think, thats why

It's called denial.
They only want to hear what they want to hear even though deep down, they know you might be right.
But they wan't to be reassured by lies.

advice is something you ask for when you know the answer but wish you didn't (eg, you don't like it and are looking for an alternative)
