i am 16 years of age and lift weights, i work on my biceps and triceps but from what ive heard if you build on your biceps you then decrease the speed of your punches is this true ?
What advantages would building up your biceps bring to martial arts and exercises like squats and dead lifts do they affect flexibility because they do leave your legs feeling really sore and tense.

resistance training does not decrease the speed of strikes or kicks if anything just the opposite. the greater the amount of muscle fibers that fire in unison the greater the speed and force created. the more relaxed that a muscle is at rest the more force it can generate over the entire range of motion so power and flexibility go hand in hand.

for most in the beginning stages of resistance training there may be a great deal of soreness. this will decrease with time and as the diet improves which decreases recovery from exercise. if your leg training is interfering with your MA training then you need to develop a training routine that is more suitable towards your goals

If you are taking martial arts then see if your Do Jo offers a cardio kick boxing class. Most of these will include some isolated muscle building exercises. You want your muscles to be lean and strong but not over sized.
At your age be careful of weight lifting. You are still susceptible to a condition where you build your muscle faster than the rest of your body can handle it and your muscle tissue can actually detach from the bone.
I would stick with your martial arts classes. They will give you the best physique without over doing it. They are also helpful for focus, discipline and self control. Just make sure you have found the right Do Jo. They should push you not only physically but be teaching you about proper work ethic, including school!
Good luck to you.
