Since they dont believe in the supernatural shouldnt they be asking their questions in the science section? Once in a while I think that some are looking for answers and understanding on religion, but those cases are rare.

when did evolution become a religion?

2007-05-29 22:30:55 · update #1

I started comming here to better understand the bible from fellow Christians. I understand why other religions are here (Muslims, Satanists, pagans, etc), just not atheists.

6 out of 26 included an insulting comment explaining why they arent here to be insulting. About another 50% or the answers were from Christians so 6/13 are insulting atheists. Wow, those people sure know how to defend themselves. Insult the guy that says that you only come here to harass people. Genious!!! To the 7 that were respectful, thank you

This is an excellent question that I've never seen an atheist answer decently yet. They normally resort to, "you do it to us too!" or "sorry Christians but this forum isn't just for you" something similar. Atheists are on here because they're afraid that God does exist and they just can't shake that feeling. Indeed, a lot of atheists are people who have attempted to find God in the past but feel hurt or anger towards him because of past incidents. They mock God because if they can make him seem silly, it's easier to get him out of mind. It also annoys them how Christians can be so certain when their life is so uncertain. In the 1st century, Christians annoyed the Greco-Romans because their adherence to a higher morality cast them in a bad light. Atheists on here seek to knock belief out of everyone else to bring everyone to their level. That way we'll stop being an unpleasant reminder of the source of their hurt and anger. The fact they spend so much time on a forum that they claim has no relevance for them, betrays their true thoughts and emotions.

No, not only that, although they do seem to do a lot of mocking. But a few of them really do want to add their reasoning to the discussions and offer something positive. And to be fair, I don't think the atheists are the only ones being rude and mocking. When absolutely every question, whether posed by a believer of one sort or another or a non-believer, seems to include at least one answer that is mocking rather than offering information or informed opinion, you have to wonder why a lot of people are here. It seems the proselytizers know why they are here, but not the rest.

I am here because I figure it's the area where I have more knowledge that is not common to just about everyone than any other category. I'm a witch, and that's still comparatively rare in modern culture.

If you came HERE to better understand the bible, then you came to the WRONG place. Half the people here hardly ever read it. Go talk to a priest or a pastor or whatever - at least you'll know they've read it. And for the umpteenth time - we have every right to be here, belief in evolution is not a religion, blah blah broken record blah.

Most of us were believers at some point, then we woke up. If you believe in supernatural stuff, why aren't you in the mythologies section? Why do bible thumpers go to the LGBT section? Why ask why? Who cares? If you don't like what we have to say, ignore it.

There are just as many "critical" Christians from what I've seen. No one group inhabiting this space appears tobe any better than the other. there are select individuals on both sides of the fence that do exhibit tolerance and acceptance of the others and their right to think and believe as they choose.

They're entitled to their view just as much as we are. The difference is, a lot of them use an ad hominem argument much more than the "religious people" do (Some still do it on the religious side though >_>), they go straight for your inteligence and don't bother to just attack your point.

It's poor logic, and I'm disgusted when I see it used by either side.

You can even find examples of it in this question. Look at Acid's post for example. That's loaded language if I ever saw it... "Magical sky daddies" >_>

People should come back when you can acctually make a valid point that doesn't rely on ad hominem.

I don't have any science questions, and if I did, I would ask them in the science section. But I do provide real science to the lucky lucky creationists who cross my path once in a wile.

Other than that, I'm here for the cake.

This is a forum for everyone, not just the religious. If you don't like having us here, perhaps you belong somewhere else? Just a suggestion.

Since you cannot understand an item called an "Open Forum" perhaps you should only join the christians study group where you get together and try to hypnotize each other further?

I Gotta agree. If they don't believe in god and want scientific answers and proof why in gods name are they in the religion & spirituality section. It makes no sense to me i don't understand why people can't just let each other be.

Beverly: Atheist do not have a religion. the definion of religion is the service or belief in god or the supernatural. I don't think atheist meet that requirement

I like to learn about what folks believe and why.

I also like to voice the opinion of those whose rights are being trampled by the majority controlling this country. The voice of reason needs an outlet. :)
