6. Contrary to popular belief in the West, jihad is not one of the five pillars of Islam.

8. One of the basic precepts of Islam is the equality of all people regardless of race, ability, or gender.

9. Muslims believe that there is no compulsion in religion and that individuals are free to choose their own religion and beliefs.

I would say it is the BIASED view on somebodies webpage hosted on the PERSONAL sites server of a visiting professor- who happens to be a member of the Islamic Society of Central Pensylvania- which actually prepared the dicument you linked to. So it is hardly an unbiased document!

From the information there it is clear that the ISCP is not a radical one and is supportive of peace and against terrorism- so yes, they probably believe what is written there- but that does not negate the fact that there are terrorists that disagree with their view on Islam!

I've never heard it said that jihad was a pillar of Islam, I was told there were big rewards if you die in jihad.
And the Muslim men in my class told me that jihad does mean "holy war." in English, They are from Afghanistan maybe it means something else in another countrys dialect?

This is a personal web page, what makes it unbiased, there are no sources stated at all.

While I'm aware of the inherent absurdity of judging an entire group of people based on the actions of a few crazed zealots, I think it's ultimately difficult for people in the West, like myself, to truly believe these things when they see so many Muslim nations acting against these very precepts. I mean, how many Muslim countries actually encourage diversity of religion? I think the Muslim faith needs more people like yourself, who clearly see the positive attributes of your faith, to speak out against the Islamists that are tainting the name of your religion.

Please, this is not 'unbiased'.

Hardly a peer-reviewed scientific work, no?
