Islam contributed so much, but gets no credit. Why is this?

Arab contributions to human civilization are noteworthy. In mathematics, they write digits from right to left and they were the first people to introduce the Zero that allowed major mathematical breakthroughs. Al-khawarzmi was the first to solve algebra equations of the 1st and the 2nd degree. Also, Al-karaki developed an approximate method of finding square roots, theory of indices, theory of mathematical induction, and theory of intermediate quadratic equations. On the other hand, Nasseredine Al-Tusi separated trigonometry from astronomy which recognizes and explains weakness in Euclid’s theory of parallels. As a result, he was the founder of non-Euclidian geometry. In astronomy, they used to chart time of sunrises and sunsets to determine the period of fasting during Ramadan and they were able to determine the length of degree, to establish the longitude and latitude, to investigate the speed of sound and light.

Moreover, Al-Biruni discussed the possibility of earth rotation on its axis which was proven six-centuries later by Galileo. Also, El-Fezari and Fargai developed the magnetic compass and the charting of zodiac.

In addition, their contribution to medicine is undeniable since they are the first to realize that there are contagious diseases and AL-Razi was the 1st to diagnose smallpox and introduced its remedies as mercurial ointment and animal gut. Also, Ibn-Sina introduced the relationship between some diseases and one’s mental health and that some illnesses are psychotherapists, whereas Ibn-el-Nafis discovered the fundamental principles of pulmonary circulation. Also, Arabs are the one who used Herbal medicines.

I do not agree with the answerer who feel that the credit of all the inventions should go to the Muslims because they seem to have forgotten the history. Before the advent of present day Islam or before Allah (swt) sent the Holy Quran the Arabs were a blot on the name of Humanity. The same people after advent of the present day Islam and taking cue from the Holy Quran started searching for the truth and could make all the above and many more inventions. So I think credit going to Islam is justified.
World is controlled by the media now and the media is controlled by the Zionists. This is the reason the world has ignored the Islamic contribution to Science and Literature.

I think that some people still misunderstand Islam. The media portrays Muslims as extremeists. This isn't the case. Yes, there are those that are not good representatives of the faith, but there are the same in EVERY faith. For example, the KKK is to Christianity as Muslim exremeists are to Islam. The Klan members are not fair representatives of the Christian faith. I think people have given Islam a bad name. However, the accomplishments that you have listed should be given to the individuals rather than the entire religion. I am a Christian. I wouldn't feel right given Christianity the credit for things that people did if they happen to be Christian. That is their faith, but just because they are that faith doesn't mean that faith made them accomplish said thing. The world doesn't ignore it, but the world gives credit to the individual rather than the religion.

You are right, Al-Khawarizmi flourished under thepatronage of the Caliph al-ma'mun. He excelled in math, astronomy, geography, and geometry. he was the first to use algebraic terms as well as to solve quadratic equations. Algebra was at term used by khawarizmi to find solutions for equations. The muslim scientist also introduced the Indian system of numerals into written arabic. some of his major works were "The science of Algebra and Equations", "Astrolabe's operations", and 'Rasm Al Ma'mour Min Al Bilad" which includes latitudes and longitudes of over 2,400 localities and cities. he also performed astronomical calculations covering eclipses and the true positions of the sun, moon and planets.
also Jaber bin hayyan transgressed these science by intoducing a new approach.
Ibn Al-Haytham: he was the first to furnish a scientific explanation for an eclipse and rainbow.
ibn Al-jazarry: He spent a significant portion of his life inventing mobile and hydraulic machines.

I think that the reason why people forget these Arab contributions to science and math is because after the Mongol sacking and partial destruction of Baghdad in 1258, Islamic civilization declined.

By the way, it is a little known fact that these very same Arab scholars carried on the academic excellence and tradition of the Greek Byzantine culture. But just as the west forgot the contribution of Arab scholars to its current state of learning, likewise the Islamic world has forgotten the Greek Byzantine influence which fostered its academic learning.

Just goes to show that the world has always been interdependent and that we all need to remember our history.

I know the mathematical part is not ignored, because I heard it when I was in school, and I'm not a mathematician by any stretch of imagination. And other scientific things that you mentioned, especially astronomy, I had heard, too. Westerners do not tend to recall the names of specific inventors or discoverers when the names are so very unfamiliar, but they are told that these people were Arabs.

However, there is a great deal of difference in saying that this huge religion is responsible for various scientific advances. That's like saying the Catholics discovered or invented all the things that European or American ("western world") scientists did. It was not their religion that did it: it was individual men and women who did it.

Alot pf people are saying the credit goes to the Arabs & not Islam but if you watch this documentary, you will see that the credit does go to Islam.

The forgotten history of Islam that was left out of the history books, WHY? Simply because the world refuses to accept that Islam was the founder of 70% of inventions that make the world civilised today.
Jewish people also played a huge part in civilisation but its the christians who want recognition for so many things that they dont deserve recognition for.

Muslims & Jews are the richest people in the world, Without them the world would be at a total loss.

This may offend many people but it is the truth.

The worlds civilisation & riches come from muslims & jews. You can argue & say I'm wrong but if you research you will see it is the truth.

No doubt about what you said !
(Middle East Past is a major contributor to Current civilization)

But you miss one very obvious question : Why Not in the Recent Past & Present ???

I read some stories about Real Muslims trying to promote science in islamic countries but they are kind of Galileo's of Islamic world

Try it for yourself

Peace be with you

I am a Christian and am obviously opposed to Islam as a religion in that it denies the divinity of Christ (and for other issues). I do however think that you are correct in saying that noteworthy advancements have come out of Islamic nations from Islamic peoples. The contributions you speak of (and more) are indeed noteworthy.

THis is more of a Arabic contribution than Islam. I do not think this was contributed from any angle that was driven by religion. It was more by the inquisitive and intelligent people.
I think these contributions would have still been there if there was no Islam.
AFA Islam is concerned, there is lot of contribution to the world that can be boasted about, like terrorism, fundamentalism, war, fights, killing in most gruesome way... list is endless.... CERTAINLY not Algebra, nonEuclidean geometry....
