Because most Christians, whether they know it or not, actually want to emulate nations like Iran by having a theocracy. They think that since they believe everyone should and I doubt highly that most of them would object to having their beliefs made as the law of the land. The only thing stopping them from this is the way our Constitution was written. Also, just as a side note, they are at least not as fanatical as some Islamic nations. But that is only because the rest of us keep them in check whenever we can.

I think that the real fanatics are the Hindus in India who keep the caste system and won't eat meat. The Shites in Palestine who blow up people to wipe out Israel also come to mind.
For the most part religious Americans are passionate but I would venture to say most are not fanatical. If we were there would not be as much tolerance for all of the religions in America.

Human beings are basically "hard-wired" to ask philosophical and theological questions, once their more basal needs are satisfied, and the problem is that some folks desire their "answers" in simple, black & white form. Unfortunately, life isn't like that.
This is why it's always easy for some charismatic charlatan to come alone and create a cult - people want answers, they want them in simplest terms, and they like it when a "prophet" hands it to them on a virtual platter.
That, and they feel guilty if they're not participating in "services" or "prayer meetings" on a regular basis.

i love this...i would marry an american for this..if he would ask me..to marry him...
we lived in comunism ..and we hardly were allowed to talk about God...if there were no R&S..on Yahoo..i would not come here so often...there are national sites in my country ..but they are boring...everything is boring is God is not there ..in the center..i saw that americans talk about God..on yahoo..this made me feel extraordinarily..after so many years of comunism..the whole country was like a big prison...prison home prison at schhol prison at job..prison on the street..prison in the bus..we were not allowed to talk..and when they talk they talked only inside families..or inside a very closed circle of couple of friends..well there were some simple people who didn't fear ..and they were listening a radio from abroad made for our country...actually we thank to that country who let this radio exist..well here in my country although it 's been 15 years since the comunism ended in a revolution where 3000 people died ..that we could be free....they still don't talk about God..they still are scared...my husband insults God..i felt very bad..and i din't know what to do..i thought i will loose my mind...and i discovered a radio here which is made by somebody from abroad ..maybe america..and even if they are of other cults..it makes me feel good when i hear they talk about God..all the time..only about God..and how we should behave in love- for example..and songs about God..well it is beautiful..even if we are all ortodox here and they are from other cults..well i hope we will forever be ortodox..because this is the Truth..and we will die for it..but i like this radio...makes me live in reality..in the reality that God exist..without God..i cannot live at least a second..

And we are blessed by it. Let me help you reconstruct your question:
Why is the USA so determined to remain faithful to God. They who are the said 'only remaining superpower' , a world leader amonst other nations, wealth enough to display it over all other nations, free to believe how we will no matter what our government thinks?

America was founded by religious zealots looking for freedom to worship and persecute as they saw fit.
