A two thousand year old story hardly qualifies as news. Maybe, in the day it was news but now?

Is Armageddon good news?

Gospel, from Old English - good spell. Related to evangel, which means good angel. An angel is a messenger.

The idea of news being a novelty relies on a mythological take on things. I was just reading the other day that the law is a constant discourse on morality. A judge said it. This is how mythology works. It is neither true, nor false; merely effective. It is a public liturgy. What the relationship is between public good news and personal good news is in mythology is the subject of many dramas, possibly.

One instance of the word "gospel" in the New International Version is in Matthew 24:14. This is "euaggelion" which the dictionary says should be translated "evangel." I associate the word "spell" with the mother of the harlots, Babylon the Great, in Revelation 18. Verse 23 says: "The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray." The Bible is very definitely against spells and magic, so I'm guessing that the formation of the word "gospel" is something that's come from a mystical or mythological take on what the Bible was trying to say anyway. There's apparently a point of view that says that the stars give a gospel. This would actually make some sense given the doings of the star of Bethlehem.

In any event the base of the word is "eu" = good and "aggelos" = messenger.

People continue to be born suffering from the same old problems, so the gospel is good news for every successive generation.

There's still a lot of ignorant people out there today, too.

It is news for the people hearing it for the first time, which is what they are for, recruiting tools.

They're a little slow on the uptake. They still believe dinosaurs roam the Earth, so it's no surprise.
