I dreamed that I was in a pool full of friends and I jumped in and my shirt came over my face and I couldn't make it to the top and I started choking on water and I sank to the bottom watching all of my friends having fun and not caring that I was almost dead.

There was a lot of noise and confusion in this dream, I bet. Kind of like at school or work.
This dream reminds me of being a lone wolf in a crowd of people who all like each other but who do not take special notice of the lone wolf.

water means trouble, drowning means even more trouble and friends not helping to save you is even more double troble because, unless you are kidding yourself, the people around you whom you associate with right now are full of treachery and you need to reconsider your association with them before you get in trouble. with the shirt over your head means either they are planning a serious trouble ahead or even they dont know it yet but when it happens they will rope you in it so much so thet you will not be able to get out of it. I heard that water in dreams were your emotions. So drowning in emotions? Are you feeling overwhelmed by your friends or maybe feel they are deserting you emotionally?
My worst with water was I fell in really cold water and froze. Not a comforting dream. Hope you're feeling better...M

This could poin to the fact that the people who called themselves your "friends" could really careless if you died. Sometimes people who call themselves are not our friends, but when find out who they really are when we go through tragedies in our lives. Which is kinda of what this dream is pointing to. If you come across something tragic where you really needed someone's help, they would not could to your aid.

wierd..i had a very similar dream about a week ago..but i fell into the ocean..and i was almost killed by sharks. and no one tried to save me also.
