What we decide to wear says something about us. Whether it is a cross or star of david. To me I would think that you have something to do with Judaism if I saw you with it on, or christian if I saw you with a cross....doesn't mean that you are totally observant by wearing a symbol, it just shows you are proud of for whatever reason of that symbol. Doesn't bother me at all. If you feel comfortable wearing it, then go for it. We shouldn't live our lives for anyone else anyway.

Don't listen to the haters.

When I see people like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan with Cross necklaces on, I have to smile, "yeah, that symbol really saves people, NOT." The cross means NOTHING, it was Christ's death and not what he died ON that matters!

The Star of David has only been around as the symbol of the Jews for a few hundred years, so its still relatively new as a symbol for a people.

Personally, I just think its Jewelry and nothing else.

The same holds true with the Star of David as holds true with the cross. The hexad or hexagram is a very ancient symbol and is not the sole property of Judaism or the Jewish people. It has had many meanings to many different cultures. In fact, the hexad consists of two triangles united--one with the point up and one with the point down. The triangle with the point up represents the dagger (sword, blade, etc.)--a symbol of the male. The triangle with the point down represents the cup (chalice)--a symbol of the female. It could, thus, be a symbol of sexual union or marriage. It could also be like the Ying-Yang with equal parts of opposites (i.e. black/white, good/evil)

Therefore there is no prohibitions against wearing it, regardless of your relious beliefs. There is nothing wrong with wearing it as a show of ethnic pride.

Personally I dont think that much of religious symbol necklaces unless they are unique in some way. They have become commonplace in our society.

As for should you be wearing one. For one I dont think its my business to comment on what you should or should not wear, but since you ask I would encourage you to wear it.

If by wearing a mogan dovid is how you express your Jewish heritage then by all means do it. I hope that it will spur you to continue to explore and study your heritage, and as a result grow from it.

This question is a little different than the cross situation. Jewish is also a heritage and a culture. Wearing a star of david could be comprable to America's wearing a red white and blue pin, or any other person wearing something which reminds them of their heritage.

Whatever you want to do with yourself is the right answer.

You are a Jew it identifies you as one end of story.
I wear one as well and my background is mixed. I am more comfortable wearing it than many other symbols because it is also a symbol of protection. It also reminds me of the struggles those who went before me have faced. Makes me thankful for what they did and what I have.

After teaching the bible to an adult study group weekly for 32 years and loving the Old Testament as well as the New Testament, I cme to believe that all Jews believed in God (Yaweh and the many other names He goes by that have special meanings)-And though they believed in God does not mean they obeyed Him as the O.T. certainly reveals and just because we Christians accept the atonment -the redeeming blood of Jesus for our sins, doesn't mean we live sinless lives
so don't get me wrong in that regard.

If, as you say, you do not believe in God but love your Davidic necklace-it seems you are wearing it under false pretenses.

I think that anyone who believes in the Word of God should not wear religious symbols.

Do you need this necklace to remind you of King David or of your Jewish faith? No. All you need is God in your heart. I would not wear it, I would not even think on it. It is just my opinion. But I am very carefull of things like that.

My husband wears a necklace with a cross with Jesus on it, I tell him not to but he doesn't listen. It is whatever works for you.
