Great example of why seperation of church & state is a good thing. I much rather live in a place that doesn't burn you at the stake for disagreeing with their nationally recognized religion. It's a shame that some people see seperation of church and state as an evil thing. Instead of seeing how it protects them from being forced into another religion, they only think it suppresses their already dominant religion.

The reason heretics used to be burned at the stake was to clearly demonstrate to all what a heretic had to look forward to, in eternity.
A few minutes getting scorched here on earth is nothing, compared to an eternity in hell.
I guess some folks are just too intelligent to understand.

Well, there are no heretics in Wicca yet, but just about everybody has a different opinion. It might be that Wicca just isn't organized enough yet to have heretics.
It might also be a power struggle thing. Christianity has a history of being in power, and heretics challenge that power. People are more equal in Wicca and there are fewer (none that I've heard of) power struggles in Wicca. I wonder if there are any heretics in the Society of Friends...

Yes, it does mean having a different belief.
Um, if you haven't noticed we STOPPED burning you in the public square... but guess what... there exists EVEN TODAY Christians who are PERSECUTED for their beliefs in Christ (Oh, that means HAVING A DIFFERENT OPINION from "you guys"... you of OTHER beliefs ... or non-beliefs). I cite below several websites where you can find FACTS of such persecutions.. No wait... they are not facts, they must be fabrications. Christians aren't persecuted ... NEVER have been... Christians have been the persecutORS. So these people are simply LIARS (DEAD liars!)... RIGHT?
OH... PUL----EEEEASE!!
God is not "okay" with people hurting others simply for "having a different opinion." José Luis de Jesús Miranda is a heretic but he's still alive. "We guys" haven't killed him! The punishment for the "crime" of heresy is death, spiritual death (separation from God). While physical punishment and death were practiced in the past, they are no longer accepted practice today.
Did our loving God tell us it was okay? No. But my question to you is... WHY do YOU continue to PERSECUTE (definition: To harass with importunity; to pursue with persistent solicitations; to annoy) we Christian "guys" for things which happened in the PAST????? And for why? Because "we guys" have a DIFFERENCE of opinion with YOU guys! So, YOU persecute US for heresy today! How does THAT make YOU feel? Does YOUR un-loving non-god tell you this is okay?

Of course it does.
But, look at wyomugs response. Sigh. Some will find any way possible to live in denial. I believe the words 'USED to' were used and Christians whining about being persecuted today. In America. Please.

Well, it morphed into "you have a different opinion, so we're going to kill you."
I kind of think it's another proof that the Loving God isn't really talking to anybody down here.

You touch on an interesting point. Part of the reason I don't agree with organized religion. Still, no reason to be hostile about it, you should debate with people if you feel that strongly about your views.

Well, it used to be "You are different and/or a woman so I have decided to kill you" but I guess Webster decided to shorten it a little.
