If you're almost a teen, chances are pretty good that you have some acne. About 8 in 10 preteens and teens have acne, along with many adults. In fact, about 17 million people in the United States have acne. Acne is so common that it's considered a normal part of growing from a kid to an adult.

But knowing that doesn't make it easier when you look in the mirror and see a big pimple on your chin! The good news is that learning about acne and taking some simple steps can help you feel better about your face.

Acne is a skin condition that shows up as different types of bumps. They include whiteheads, blackheads, red bumps (pimples), and bumps that are filled with pus (cysts). What causes these annoying bumps? Well, your skin is covered with tiny holes called hair follicles, or pores. Pores contain sebaceous (say: suh-bay-shus) glands (also called oil glands) that make sebum (say: see-bum), an oil that moistens your hair and skin.

Most of the time the glands make the right amount of sebum, and the pores are fine. But sometimes a pore gets clogged up with too much sebum, dead skin cells, and germs called bacteria. This can cause acne.

If a pore gets clogged up, closes, and bulges out from the skin, that's a whitehead. If a pore clogs up but stays open, the top surface can get dark and you're left with a blackhead. Sometimes the walls of the pore are broken, allowing sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells to get under the skin. This causes a small, red infection called a pimple. Clogged-up pores that open up deep in the skin can lead to bigger infections known as cysts.

Skin is an indicator of the internal health. If you have a healthy diet rich in vegetables and sprouts (uncooked) and add fruits in your regular diet, your general health will improve and your skin in turn will get better. Try to keep the breakfast simple and healthy without much oily stuffs. Diet is the major secret for a good health.
Other than that, you can try a home recipe. Squeeze half a lemon in water and drink before you go to bed. Apply that lemon juice in the lemon skin on your face and do a gentle massage and wash it in the morning.

invest in proactive. its does wonders for your face!! just have to make sure you use it the way they tell you and within 4 weeks you should see a difference. as for skinner, go to the gym, work out, start light, watch what you eat. give up soda and sugary drink! also junk food. and as for lighter skin, sorry dont know what to do there. All i can say is make sure you wear a high SPF during summer time. And wear colors that will compliment you, being dark is not a bad thing, just have to find your style!!

I would suggest a gentle exfoliant...I use DCL AHA revitalizing lotion...it is gycolic acid but it tingles just a little. If you start off with a 5% lotion and increase to 10% and then 15% you will definitley notice a difference. This will not lightne your skin...you should notice smooth and brighter skin. If DCL is too expensive you can go to Walgreens and get a decent 10% AHA (alpha hydroxy lotion) lotion and that will take about a week to see decent results hope that helps!!! I hate to say it but don't lighten your skin because you will be risking too much... you are beautiful the way you are hunny!!!
