Selective Serotonin Re uptake Inhibitors, the name suggests, the drug (s) have high affinity for Serotonin uptake sites, but the wierd thing is, they indirectly affect Dopamine, NE as well, usually in higher doses, so techincially, NO but they actually effect it, yet you should not notice it. after all they are not super selective, they are precise to target serotonin, but mistakes happen

While I can't give you the chemical reason, I will say that it has for me.
When my depression was out of control, I would often shake, or be so tense as to cause diarrhea, or worry myself into headaches and stomach aches.
With the use of a SSRI my depression is under control and I am free of those nasty symptoms that were a bi-product of my depression.
