Yes, I've disputed a mistake on a credit report, and won. I used the online form, stated exactly what I wanted in the form of a short, clear request, and the Credit Reporting Agency corrected the mistake. Four days turnaround. And after the correction, they allowed me to view the corrected credit report online for free. It's the law, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, administered by the US Federal Trade Commission.

Do not use the phone. You need to leave a paper or electronic trail. Dispute the problem with the Credit Reporting Agency (CRA) first, not the creditor. If the same mistake appears on more than one CRA's report, do not assume that correcting one report will automatically correct the other one. You must make separate disputes with each CRA. Do the separate disputes at the same time.

I would guess that about 50%+ of the items you dispute are removed. That is if the dispute is legitimate. It is more difficult (illegal) to dispute or have something removed if the item is legitimate. In many cases the items don't even belong to you, someone Else's credit, these are almost always removed. In the event you are not sure about an item on your credit report I would personally dispute it, if the creditor does not acknowledge this debt as accurate, the Credit Reporting Agencies have no option except to remove. It is definitely worth disputing an item. GOOD LUCK

Yes I did. I got a credit report that had something on it that wasn't right and did an online dispute of the issue. I guess that triggered the other 2 reporting companies to send me their report, and so I disputed it on them too.

There were other things I disputed too, like they had my daughter listed as my husband..hehe, and a few other weird things. They fixed it all.

It took about 2-3 months for all of it because each time they corrected something they'd send out a new report that I could respond to if there was something questionable on it.

Sure, I have done it for myself a few times and for other people, about 10 times. There were a lot of cell phone billing disasters in the mid 90s. I liked the one where World Com did not send me and other customers a bill for 7 months.
You just have to write letters and follow a number of steps.

Yes, as long as you can provide a decent and reasonable explanation especially with bogus Internet purchases.

You should have a separate card for Internet purchases so you can keep a better eye on it as well.

Never use a debit card because this is money coming directly from your bank account and may result in little recourse.----
Credit cards give you more leverage because your using the company's money instead of your own!!!

If you have genuine grounds to dispute, you will win but this will take a little time.

If your having a crack for the sake of it, i am not sure how youll go.
