my grandfather was visiting vietnam on some kinda memorial day thing. they were digging in an old battle field area, and he found an American soldiers dog tag from vietnam. its pretty rusty but i can read everything. is there any way i can find this guy or at least his family so that i can give him his dogtag back?? can i search with his social security number or army number or sumthing? i really want to find him..or if he was fallen i would like to give it to his family.

go to VFW or the office of veterns affairs, I lost a set of dog tags I would love to get back...Im sure the soldier. or their family would also feel the same way

I agree with Sparkles. Contact your local VFW and ask for help. But if it was me, I would not in any way turn the dog tags over to military personnel reason being It will not be turned over to the family. I can imagine how a family would feel to receive the dog tags. I would be very happy to have my father's but his was lost while he was in Vietnam. Good Luck on finding the family. Contact your local VFW and talk to one of the members. He/she will know how to help you to find the owner.
