We just got a kitten who had a respiratory infection about 3 weeks ago, and they have remained separated. I am concerned because my catr is overweight, and his usually cold wet nose, it now dry and hot. He is also wheezing when he breathes, and when he tries to meow, nothing comes out. Should I take him to emergency? Or is this something that can wait a day or two? (when I actually have money for a vet)

If he is drinking and eating, take him tomorrow. If not, get him in right now. He sounds like he has a respiratory infection, which he caught from the kitten. He needs antibiotics as well, maybe. Yes, get kitty to the vet as soon as possible. Make sure you emphasize to the office you need an appointment right away.

Good luck.

Your cat sounds like he has contacted a virus. No cure for the virus, but the vet can treat the secondary infection he may have from it. Probably taking him in the morning will be soon enough if he isn't acting too ill.

Wheezing is NEVER a good sign. He needs to see a vet as soon as you can arrange it. The kitten should see a vet too.

Good luck.

Need to get to vet YESTERDAY. Your cat is SICK and it is way past time for medical care and treatment. I am surprised he has lasted so long and not succumbed to dehydration, etc. Also sounds like he has an upper respiratory infection.
