Lets look at people who believed in god ... Albert Einstein, Max Planck (significantly contributions to quantum theory), Gregor Mendel (first to lay the mathematical foundations of genetics), Isaac Newton and of course ... that brilliant ... me! lol
Well - you get the picture.
There are a lot of very thoughtful and intelligent people out there that believe in god. So it would be nice not to make nasty comments about our intelligence. Mostly i would say that we are intelligent people who do not blindly follow anyone or anything. We use our brains and come to the obvious conclusion - god exists.
Thanks in advance

Oh - also the director of the human genome project - one of the biggest scientific achievements of our time - is a believer.

i honestly think it's insecurity and slight rebellion. To believe in God is to make yourself accountable to a power that is greater than you. many people don't want to do that.
also i think that a lot of people just say that to make themselves feel better, people will use anything to make them feel superior to others including religion.

It's also unbelievably arrogant to think that god is on your side in whatever you do, and in that you are always right in what you do. This sort of delusion has had horrendous consequences throughout history. I just hope you are in no position of power. You may feel you have some sort of crutch, but don't let this cloud your reason. There is no evidence for the existence of a god, and the fact that you can't disprove him does not mean a 50/50. It makes it so unlikely that it may well be dismissed. Grab hold of your life, because there's a lot of it in front of you to enjoy. It's a wonderful, scientific world out there. Don't fill the gaps with ghouls, and deities.

Egg-headisms. And I am a Christian. Wisdom is too high for a fool-Proverbs 24:7.
Limiting God to the intelligent is also false doctrine, We must be chosen vessels of Christ -John 15:16 &Acts 9:15.
Saying God can do nothing is just as bad heresy as saying God cannot do everything.

Question for Kromer, the first answerer.
What the heck is a non-theistic deity.
That doesn't make any sense. It's an oxymoron.
That is what Theism is.
Theism : Belief in the existence of a god or gods.
Deity : A god or goddess.
No matter what kind of god. If it's a god it is theistic.
And deity is just another name for a god.
And, if you are talking like some kind of abstract life force, like in Buddhism, that is not a god at all, and Einstein definitely believed in a creator with in intellect.
A quote from Einstein
" God does not play dice with the universe."
That is some kind of theistic-deity.

I couldn't go past Albert Einstein. You are inaccurate.
Is this just another propaganda sound bite?
Making nasty comments is never pleasant but spreading inaccurate information is not pleasant either.
As for following blindly, scientists are asked to question and not follow blindly after some dogma.
Christians are told that it is a sin to think outside the box; the first and greatest sin was eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve quickly discovered she was naked. How silly.
Perhaps god exists, maybe not. God has not contributed much to creating iPods or our understanding of the human genome but science has even though science and scientists hav been regularly persecuted by Christians.

Because they put "religious people who have faith (i.e., belief in things unseen)" in the same category with those people from the story of The Emperor Has No Clothes, where the Emperor is walking around naked, thinking he is dressed in his FINEST attire and everyone else is being 'yes men' and saying how fine his clothing is, that's how they look at people who believe in God.

Of course there are intellegent people of all religions. The fact is, I think people are so put off by christians is because the ones that draw the most attention are usually beyond stupid. (aka fundamentalists)
Many christians seem to think that all atheists are evil. It's just stereotypes flying around that militant individuals use against each other.

I don't think anyone who believes in God is stupid, quite the contrary since 95% of humanity believes in a higher power.
I do question the open-mindedness and courage of those who interpret the Bible or the Koran literally and do not see them as the figurative books of parables from which to receive guidance for living, that they are.

No.1 :
There are so many young people, any religion, go around visiting houses or at school or in the market place where crowds of people around, doing some kind of propaganda; They think they are doing good for their religion, they think they are trying to introduce "God" , while actually they are more or less just trying to sell books, beeds, or any thing.
So some people feel obliged to buy, but some laugh at them. Especially when listen to what they are saying. Most of them are teenagers whom almost know nothing or know very little about life. They are ignorant but try hard to convince make them look stupid. They said they all do it in the Name of God for the good of God ; that is why the remarks occur.
No.2
Believe in God is a Faith, which told to us by our parents; Some parents explain it the right way some parents dont. The word submission, many times interprete wrongly , especially by youngsters; They think parents or any body who have that attitude just lazy or stupid; Sure some are; but when people get older and get wiser, they realize that unless you force very hard and do against other's rights, you just reach a "mediocre" status. You will not becoming a billioner.
You have to bulliest your will and ego or lying or manipulate or being cunning or do something which to "noble attitude" called "prostituting" to get more than average.; and to do all those things you have to use your "brain" yet the true believers dont do such things; They just do the best they can to improve knowledge, to reach goals by being best sport's player, scientiest anything to do good for others because they afraid of God, in a sense they actually respect God such they do not have to manipulate to reach a success; that is also why they, to some people regard as stupid, because they have to work very hard to reach a success.
No.3
People who believe in God with true believe, are not abusive, sure they fight, but they fight for the rightenous of their believe; which to do that sometimes they need a lot of people to joint ,which some of them do stupid things and do abuse- and claim : on the Name of God".
There are many stupid things "on the Name of God" done by the ignorants ; actually, atheists just the same; they say lots of stupid things lots of them acts stupid too, many of their scientist's conclusions remain floating;
NOTHING TO DO WITH GOD.
Einstein etc, believed in God as a conclusion; some other scientiests do not, Hawking does not.
That does not means anything regarding the existency of God. God will not getting bigger or smaller, or more significant by what they were believing/saying.
If you believe in God, do good things to human beings, be smart, work hard be successfull without being cunning, without cheating, without manipulating, so you will sure show people that by believing in God you are not stupid.
The more the believers say stupid things and behave stupiditely the others will claim that believe in God id stupid.
That is a stupid remarks, by the way, as it has nothing to do with God.
I hope you get my points.
Thank you

Its stupid that people believe in god and then forget why they believe. Its stupid that people believe in God first and being a good person second, and no they are not the same thing. Its stupid to judge others because their view of god is different. There is nothing wrong with believing in god, its religion that's causing all the problems.

Einstein did not believe in god the way you mean it.
Name 3 PhD Physicists that have published a peer reviewed paper in the last 5 years that believe in a personal god. They are nearly unheard of.
Science has made the idea of a god redundant. Most of those scientists did not have the data we have today.
