1] paint a sea side theme with sandy beach turning to blue-green sea. Add natural items [ shells, starfish, palm tree, fish in water ] with clouds and sunrise or sunset. Make floor the sea color, and your bed the beach color. Use the sun colors for accessories like candles, pillows, lamps, rugs.
2] do a forest scene with tall trees of your ideal forest. Add some brightly colored birds flying, pecking on ground, or in trees. Make floor earth color, leaf color, or moss. Use the sky/trunk/leaf color for bedding and draperies. Add accents the color of the birds in small items - candles, dresser items, etc.
3] what is your dream vacation? Do a scene from that [ Paris, skiing, mountain climbing, etc. ]
4] what is your ideal job? Do a diorama of that! - fashion runway, spaceship, stage, etc.[ don't do a 'boring' job, like nursing, teaching, or raising children - the pix will be boring ]

I don't think you should paint your room based on what others are or aren't doing. I also don't think my favorite colors will express your personality as well as they express mine. Despite what everyone else is doing, blue is very versatile and you can come up with a very original deco. Go to a paint store and get samples!! Paint 2' x 2' patches to see what the color looks like when dry (usually dries a bit darker than the paper sample and always looks different in the room you are decorating!!!) The paint samples come in tiny containers and usually cost a little, but is better than fixing a disaster. You may be surprised to find what color combos you really love and may opt to go for three neutral walls and one accent wall. There are also different finishes such as faux or glaze which will give any color a different personality. You can always get assistance at the paint store. Before you do all this work though, you should start by buying some magazines ( or request catalogs on line from pottery barn, pier one and others for free) and make a folder for pictures you absolutely love! Yes, this will take some time (so will repainting. I guess that largely depends how much time and $$ you have for this project)...but you want it to turn out great!

Try visiting the library or bookstores(my favorite) to study the home decorating books and magazines to get ideals. Or try studying the predominant colors in your desired or existing furniture and decorating accents such as lamps, pictures, vases, bookshelves, and bed covers. Hopefully you will find a color that will go with all those items. If still stuck, go to Sherwin Williams, Home Depot or Lowes or any paint seller that has loads of paint sample cards, and take all the paint sample cards that catch your fancy. Take turns taping them to your wall and see how you like those shades during the day and evening. Once you narrowed down the choices, go back and see if you can get those sample paints in the 2 or 3 oz jars and paint a sample board (white poster board or white cardboard box from grocery store) to see a bigger sample to help you make a final decision. Hope this helps....

I m assuming that you are talking about your bedroom. Blue is a safe and secure color and the number one choice in America. How about blue, green and black or blue, green and white or blue, green and brown? Maybe, blue, orange and black or blue, orange and white, and last, blue, orange and brown? I am just adding a neutral to the color that you like the best. Any of these combinations I think will work for you. Choose the next color that you like the best and work with that if you think that the blue is on the edge. Your blue does not have to look ordinary if you use it as your second color you can work around it. Do you like to sleep late? I find that a warmer color works best for me in the bedroom. I like to have it quiet and a little on the darker side. It is like when I choose a mattress.
You can make a zen like space. Lots of luck and I hope this helps you to choose.

why not use some of the new style metallic wall paints - they are stunning! they make the walls look like a polished sheen or glimmering sparkle - I like the aqua - it's not reeeeeealy blue - you could then add gorgeous accents of crisp white and soft whispy curtains and white wall shelving with white coral pieces and candles - the metalic look would look so dreamy - like the ocean
if you can afford it put white plantation shutters on your windows
paint a pre-bought stretched canvas with the aqua a little darker, plus a cream and sandy colors and white in blending horizontal bands and hang above your bed
paint your furniture white
ahhhhh the ocean......

a great one is a tri tone room.. you do the walls in areally deep chocolate brown in a semi gloss, you do all the trim in white and have a lot of white sheers, do a whtie sheer canopy around your bead and then get a lot of accesories in bright blue.
another idea is do some walls in a toupe and the others in a deep orange...use beiges and browns for accesories...
a great colour is green....green looks great with tan and brown and blue and black...white too...
if all else fails just go to a paint store and look at the paint chips...pick a few u like and by smaple sizes...paint some to see what they'd look like in ur room
ps my personal pick is the brown and white and blue

Paint the largest wall a sage green and the other three walls one shade lighter.
Get a big picture of a tropical flowerand put on the green wall.
decorate the rest of the room around that.

get different color for one wall as point of view- then you'll feel different without much work to do...
but feeling like on vacation? well, yeah - you need to change some of your stuff ... get re-upholstered, throw more cushion .. create different space then you ever have bfore.
