Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft:Deuteronomy 18:10

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God:Galatians 5:19-21

and don't forget one of the commendments.. thy shall not worship any idols.

Okay I'm sure that there are verses in the Bible that people have come to say that "witchcraft" is bad, but I don't know what they are. But I do know that there is a place in the Bible that says your not supposed to judge, so really what can man say is good/bad when it comes to something like that and you can't judge your neighbor???
Whose to say any one religion is the right religion??? I personally believe they are all "right" just that each group was given a different way to see "GOD".
Anyway if you want the true story of Wicca (which the word witch or witchcraft came from) was followed by many hundreds of years ago. Wicca was something where they had high respect for women and were at one with the earth. The christians came in and wanted christianity to be the main belief system, so they started putting bad names on Wicca's or better known today as witches. They had the whole burning at the stakes and made the beliefs that most have today of witches or witchcraft, when in reality Wicca is very peaceful and don't do bad spells or anything of the sort, it's actually very peaceful..
So no I don't see it as being bad, it's just what people over time have made it out to be.

I'm a Witch and I don't put any credence in any disapproval the bible might have of Witchcraft because the bible is a violent book filled with the slaughter of thousands of innocent non-Jewish people, and I thoroughly disapprove of it. Most Christians will tell you that Witchcraft is against the teachings of the bible, and then some will offer the preposterous idea that this is because Witchcraft is associated with Satan, which is ridiculous because Satan is an invention of Christians.

It is forbidden

Exo 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

1Sa 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

"Thou shall not suffer a witch to live."

This is NOT because witchcraft is bad, but because humans don't know HOW to use it or make it trustworthy. Demons can send people on the wrong path easily, making a good thing into something that will waste a life, such as Saul's 'message' from Samuel (which was actually a demon). Saul was dead two days later as a result of the message.

So, we see that from examples in the Holy Bible, its not the witchcraft, its our ability to USE it and interpret it. We don't even know who's speaking to us (the Witch of Endor told Saul IT WAS Samuel, even describing him ACCURATELY to King Saul!) However, a few days later we see the end result of the message, NOT something Samuel would have caused HIS KING!

I believe one day, when we are more mature as a race, when we can see the end result of all possible outcomes and plan for them, then witchcraft WILL become accecptable and commonplace, but not yet.

Depends on what you define as witchcraft. "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Has also been translated as "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner of wells to live." And King Saul was condemned for consulting the "witch of Endor" a fortune teller.
Old ladies who had knowledge of Herbs and midwifery in the middle ages were sometimes branded witches and horribly tortured along with their cats. Usually if the local church or royalty wanted their land and/or money.
Modern Wiccans/Witches (called Earth based faiths) are disillusioned with organized religions and anti-environmentalists.
Satanists (who do not call themselves witches and in their 1000+ year history never have) Oppose the excesses of the Christian Church.

The biblical prohibition on witchcraft was the basis for the Salem witch trials and subsequent executions in America and elsewhere around the world in the 17th century.

Yes it is...Deut. 18:10-12--"There should not be found in you anyone who...employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah God."....The reason is that all these practices are an invitation to communication with or possesion by unclean spirits, or DEMONS! Engaging in such things would be gross unfaithfulness toward Jehovah.

Omgosh...Janet L's statement just proves how twisted some are to the true meaning behind Christianity, you cannot be a Christian & a witch at the same time...soo sad, how soo many are deceived...

Witchcraft is against the bible.
I'm a Christian w/ psychic abilities though, and it's tough living with this, sometimes.
(It's hard when witchcraft runs in the family.
My grandmother always tries to deny the witchcraft heritage because she's Christian.)

He counts the power and knowledge and reverence and faithfulness, and holiness (dedicatedness) towards Him as top rule. Trust in Him and you'll b saved: That's His message. If you trust in other things it leads to other things, that's the nature of sin. So Sorceries are just another ''thing" to divide you against God. Your first poster showed you a valid argument as to where to find it in the Bible, you can see for yourself, it wouldn't be wise to depend on other things. THAT being said, the Harry Potter movies are entertainment. They are not something that have eternal implications unless you begin to trust in them to tell you the truth about something. Then the eternal implications are negative. Otherwise it is nothing but entertainment.
