I prefer Queens - in particular, Astoria. If you work near the N line, that would be even better.

If you could find an affordable place to live on Morningside Heights go for it. The Columbia University crowd plus Riverside Park straddling the Hudson River and close access to the subways makes it a great neighborhood. Yet, it's expensive. If you have found a bargain go for it. Queens is more working class and you quickly fall into the daily grind there.

I'll suggest what I always suggest, Brooklyn.
You can probably get a nice place in Park Slope. You'd be 20-30 minutes outside Manhattan, which is not a long trip...
And you'd be in the heart of a trendy, safe and fun neighborhood.
Queens is overrated and complicated.
And Morningside Heights is a nasty area.

If you have a car, it will be expensive and difficult to park on alternate side parking days.
Queens is usually not the easiest county for public transportation to the city. Make sure you are short walking distance to the subway and transfers.
In Manhattan it's easier to be a commuter but since rents are more expensive so is the food at the market. You are paying for their rent too.
It's up to you. Do the research for yourself. Set aside some time to drive around the areas or use subway to see how long a ride it is and how the neighborhood is at different times of the week and day. Go to the local precinct or look online to find out about crime in the area.
If you like to party, live in Manhattan. If you like to get away, live in Queens.

i in my view want the better West for 2 significant motives. The element of the better East section this is on the element of necessary Park is relatively costly, and the much less costly element of the better East section are the climate a techniques from the park. yet on the better West, there are much less costly residences on the element of necessary Park, so which you have lots extra effectual get right of entry to to the park. the different reason is that that's quieter and not as busy. you are able to circulate away your condominium without being overwhelmed via mobs of folk, and you should no longer be saved up at evening via noise in case you have a front-dealing with condominium.

queens, more space and quietness. living in manhattan is sooo loud! when working there and living there the rents high and the atmosphere is loud. save alittle extra and spemnd it on urself. it wont kill u to have an extra 20 minutes on ur commute. gives u time to read the paper and do some extra grooming!
