No particular brand goes up first. Almost every gas station in the U.S. is owned by franchisees, and each pricing letter / communication reaches their intended recipient different times. All companies send the communications out at specific times of day -- usually by fax or e-mail. Some stations buy fuel from jobbers or dealers, and their pricing is a little different.

In short, the answer is "every gas station is different."

The individual gas stations don't really have control over how much they are charged for gas. (Or how much they charge you.)
The "story" from the gas companies is that the price is indexed against expected demand, the available production output of their plants, the current reserves and expected production levels of their various suppliers and their own Fields.
I can't imagine that to be completely true epically seeing how VERY well my oil company stocks are performing.
Be that as it may, Which one goes up first is a coin toss.

Shell is the first one followed by Speedway, which is owned by Marathon.
