I think it should just be taken out. It wasn't there originally. It was inserted under the McCarthian presidency during the 1950's b/c the US was in 'the Red Scare' and most were Christian so it wasn't (rightfully) challenged. (1954 or 1956)
'wyomug' very rudely emailed me to point out there were contradicting claims he had heard. I looked it up, and in so many words, the phrase was put on TWO CENT coins in the 1800's. The phrase has been on some coinage on and off since then. I think the following article stated that it was on most coinage in 1908 but not required on ALL currency until 1954.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who repeats what they've heard from others.
BTW, wyomugs, you think wikipedia is the most accurate source? Please.
Even more-McCarthy was a governor who lead the red scare-many politicians agreed with him. The 'Red Scare' is dayted as having occured from the 1940's to the later '50's. There were different presidents, of course, but I saw Eisenhower's name the most. The link is below (spartacus/red scare).

Same thing. John 1:1 in the Bible says:
"In the beginning was the Word (in Greek, "logos," ie, "logic"), and the Word (logic) was with God, and the Word (logic) was God. He was with God in the beginning."
We trust in God who is logic perfect. When we say "In God We Trust," it is saying that we trust in the greatest, most logical mind in the universe. We believe in the one who not only created human logic, but is logic eternal and far beyond human.
A wise and logical person would trust in this God, rather than the finite meanderings of their own little created material mind. Wouldn't you agree?

God requires trust. Logic doesn't. I always liked "IN GOD WE TRUST ALL OTHERS PAY CASH"

I think the sentence just needs to be finished: "In god we trust, all others pay cash."

If I know that you are someone who trusts in God, and that you are doing your best to live up to His incredibly high standards, then I am more likely to trust you...and alot more likely to extend you credit.
If you tell me you trust in Logic, you pay cold hard cash.
That's logical, in my book!

Because most Americans don't believe in logic or all that science mumbo jumbo. They like their cold hard facts from the bible.

Since God is the author of truth, and logic a means of deducing the truth; let's just stick to "In God we trust".

Cool. Now are you talking about Boolean logic, Aristotelian logic, modal logic, Deontic logic, mathematical logic, or something else? Do tell.
[edit] ...oh my, three thumbs down already. I must have offended all those fans of second order logic by leaving it off the list. I do apologize folks.

A thief could find it logical to rip money off from the poor and elderly. Where would logic be without moral accountability.
