this would be a great idea if you are just buying it as a project car to work on and restore,as long as your not going to be depending on it to be reliable transportation, because it wont be,unless it is completely restored, even if the mechanical seems to be in good shape now,it will need a lot of upgrades, but if you have something else to drive, and just want a week end project to work on,this would be a good one to start with, just keep in mind, its going to take a lot of money to completely restore it,and most people loose interest in them after about a year and sell them,so keep this in mind when you buy it,id try and get it lower if i could on price, good luck with it hope this helps.

Allow me then to give you a good solid push in that direction. BUY IT, and never look back. Restore it, put that extra care into it, and you'll have a car that will turn heads where ever you go, even to a rally for Mustangs. It is worth it to go buy it. Sure there are fancier cars, cars that may be more environmentally supportive, and all the other sales gimmicks used, but very few cars top a Mustang.

If the body isn't nice then most the time the engine isn't going to last long without getting some problems, it might run good right now but as long as you have the motivation and time to work on it then it wouldn't be a real bad idea, my parents got me a **** car and I'm 17 and if it wouldn't be the problems that Ive had with it then I wouldn't know as much as I do but it does suck having to wait on the side of the interstat letting your car cool down before your motor blows from the fan or thermostat being messed up

I would say forget it. You need a car that is dependable. The old Mustang is great if it is not your primary source of transportation. If you can get another car to drive as a daily driver and then get the Mustang for a project, then go for it. Other than that, let it ride.

It all comes down to how far you want to restore it. If you want to get it back to pristine condition, you will need all the dough you can get... and then some more... and time... and hopefully a freind who is a mechanic.
If you just want to mess around with it and try to fix some of it and generally drive it - well that costs less but you still need to maintain the car.
Why don't you ask your parents for an early xmas present, buy it and put it up in your garage. Fix it over time as money comes in and get yourself a reliable used car to drive around in. Boring? Maybe but at least you won't end up in a mechanics shop, unable to pay the bill for the broken down transmission and have to forfeit the ownership of the mustang.

That's awfully cheap for a 65 Mustang. No matter what kind of shape it is it. Get it checked out real well. It could be the buy of a lifetime or nightmare on wheels. As someone else here suggested you might be better waiting for now. There are plenty of Mustangs out there.
