One of Eckhart Tolle's books- Eckhart Tolle has original and inspirational teachings that do not promote a certain religion but do not exclude them either.
His teachings have helped many people to find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives.

Inner peace comes with the presence of Jesus Christ. I would recommend "The Imitation of Christ" by A Kempis.
If you are having some conflicts, not created by major bad choices, you might consider "Your Inner Child of the Past" W. Hugh Missildine, 1963 edition.
You should be able to find both in a library or on line. Imitation is in paper back, Inner Child is hardback.
A great deal of inner peace comes from forsaking your mind without actually loosing it! This can be a little tricky. One responder notes Ram Dass. One great point he gave years ago is the comparison of east and west. West is "I think therefore I am." East is "I think, but I am not my thoughts." Once you can divorce you from "your" thoughts you will find some mental peace. If you have a burden pressing in your chest (heart) that is something which calls for rest in Christ Jesus.

BE HERE NOW by Baba Ram Dass
My old psych professor Dr. Richard Alpert
Simple, straight forward and easy to understand. Considered by many a manual to make the transition from a psychedelic lifestyle to a yogic lifestyle. It continues to be an influential spiritual catalyst, and has inspired many to follow their own path with renewed faith and passion. Although it is currently in its 37th reprinting and has sold over one million copies, Be Here Now was originally distributed in pamphlet form by Lama Foundation.
