When I was in elementary school, there was a teacher who never let us throw away food, & ever since then, I feel badly after wasting it. Till this DAY, I don't waste food, even though I get full. I still eat it all. That probably explains why I'm heavy set.

I feel bad if its a large quantity of food that I'm wasting. Like if there is and entire pot of spaghetti in the fridge that I let go bad and now I have to throw it away. I also hate when people get lots of food that they know they are not going to eat, and then throw it away. I used to work at an ice cream shop and this little girl (about 13-14 years old) fought and fussed her parents to allow her to get a triple dip of ice cream on a cone. They gave in and let her, and the girl ended up going to the outside table with her friend, eating some of it, taking her hand and pulling off the top 2 scoops and throwing them away, then she ate the last scoop of ice cream and showed her parents and they really thought she ate the whole cone....
Another time a couple weeks ago my little sister had a friend over and we were having tostadas. Her friend (14 years old) had never tried them so I let her have some of mine and she liked it, so I made her one just like mine. She took ONE bite and let it set because she said I 'put something spicy on it' when it was the exact same as mine!! THEN, she proceeded to ask for a bowl of butter pecan ice cream and I fixed her a tiny bowl (Breyer's, the good stuff) with barely a scoop in it and she left it on the table and let it melt because "it tasted different than the kind her mom gets'.....the whole time she left it on the table I kept yelling her name and telling her to eat it and she said she would, but then she didn't and just let it melt and go to waste when my sister VOLUNTEERED and said she would eat it before it melted and her friend wouldn't let her! Wierd....
but thats the kind of wasting I hate.....DONT ASK FOR IT IF YOU DON'T PLAN TO EAT IT!!

I feel bad for wasting food too. I am live by myself and often food goes bad on me before I can eat it. I know in America especially that it is easy to overeat and to waste. Gluttony is a problem too. Instead of feeling like you have to eat eveything on your plate, get yourself smaller portions, split meals with friends when you go out or ask for a doggy bad immediately as the food comes out and then divide half the portion into the bag. Meal plan. When you cook decide what you want to eat for the week and plan accordingly. Are you cooking for yourself? If so, then only cook a one person portion, if the receipe cannot be cut down in size than freeze the rest for a quick and conveinant meal later. And if this all doesn't work and you still find yourself waisting food, then "adopt" a kid. Find an agency (Compassion International is a great one) that allows you to send money to a child (roughly $20 a month) in a third world country who does not have enough money for food and clothes. That way you are doing your part too. Also, keep in mind that Fast Food is a huge waste. The packaging that it comes in is bad for the environment. Eat fresh foods, it will help with any weight problem you may have, and it's better for the environment (soil, water, even air). So if we all do our part (small as it is) we can a make a difference in time. Don't feel guilty though, feel guilty only when you over eat. :-)

Yeah I do. Because I think about all the people that don't have food and don't even have that option to throw away food they don't like or food that they are full of. If I'm at a restaurant I ask for a to-go box and take it home eating later. If I'm at home I just put it in the fridge. Even though I rarely eat leftovers I try to save them in case someone else in my family wants them. My grandfather doesn't like to waste food either but he's never forced me to eat it all you know. He'd eat the rest for me! haha. My uncle is a super picky eater and if isn't JUST right he will throw it away. If the meat is light burnt or sometihng is just a little too salty he throws the entire thing away no matter how expensive it is! I saw him throw away a $25.00 steak meal because it was well done and not medium well. How bogus is that!

You did tell her to get f*cked. Don't try and justify it on a technicality. My mother in law is exactly the same as yours. Be a bigger person and kill her with kindness. If I can deal with her sarcastic remarks in the delivery room 15 mins after my daughter was born surely you can deal with some crappy presents, she is in another country for god sake! No matter how frustrating it is, suck it up. You threw the rings, were rude to his mother refused to let him sleep even though you knew he was mad and a sleep probably would have helped him calm down, you have sex with him to try and fix the problem then complain because it was rough not passionate, and you want him o cuddle you and buy you a new ring....Grow up, I don't condone hitting anyone, he should never have done that, but you really need to take a long hard look at yourself and perhaps stop drinking.

I try not to waste any food, because:
1. someone paid for it, either my parents or me, and I definitely don't want to waste money
2. I don't want to offend the person who cooked or bought the food. They made an effort to get that food in front of you.
3. I feel like I'm insulting those who can't have food every time I waste food.

To avoid wasting, I just cook or buy what I need. That way I get to keep my figure.

So funny this pops up as I was just having this dicussion with a friend in my age bracket. We both admitted to kinda patting ourselves on the back when we finish off leftovers in the night whether or not we are hungry. Comes from being told how others were starving and basically what little ingrates we were. I have top go. My granddaughter left a pork chop out and I have to save it from the garbage.

I don't throw it out... but I store it in the fridge... and if I can't eat it... I take it out to feed the animals. The only thing that I can't eat after it sits in the fridge a while is bread... and it is bcz it gets hard. I put them in water for an hour to soften and then take it to feed the birds and stuff.
In my religion... it is a very huge sin to throw food out.
My mom has taught me this... she never threw food out... and she still doesn't.

I have the exact same problem. My parents lived through "The Great Depression" and had very little to eat. I myself have witnessed a lot of deprivation. So I cant stand seeing food wasted.

I definitely do. and I CANNOT STAND when people let their children waste platefuls of food. I grew up in a household of 7 people (mom, dad, aunt, sister, 2 cousins, myself) and we had to scrounge to make ends meet, sometimes there would be just enough for everyone to have a helping and very rarely was there enough for seconds. Now that we are better off, we still have a hard time wasting even though we have plenty. My family cannot STAND when my boyfriends family comes over for dinner because his mother allows her son and daughter to waste enormous amounts of food that MY family paid for. Last weekend we had a cookout for my boyfriends birthday and memorial day. His mom, little brother and little sister came over and his little sister (13 years old) got a plate full of 3 pieces of fried chicken, lasagna, a cheeseburger, salad, and pasta salad. She picked all of the skin off all the chicken and only ate one piece. She then ate half of the hamburger and a couple bites of everything else and then threw the rest away. At dessert, we had cheesecake, cake, and strawberry ice cream. She scooped herself a bowl of ice cream with FOUR scoops in it, then asked for milk because she wanted to make a milkshake. Being polite (and not wanting dirty looks from her mom because she is VERY spoiled) I got it for her. she poured milk into the bowl of ice ceam and stirred until it was liquidy and ate a few bites and dumped almost the entire bowl down the garbage disposal.....I spoke up to my boyfriend later and told him that was ridiculous. That is our hard-earned money being thrown away because of a little brat who's eyes are bigger than her stomach.....and that was expensive ice cream too!!
