Hurricane season on the East coast of the US starts June 1st and ends in November. Unfortunately you can not book a holiday around the hurricanes as you never know when they will hit until it's like a week out to sea. I would just decide when I wanted to go, and go. I used to go to NO twice a year ever year, but it was on St Paddy's day and Halloween, so it was out of hurricane season all together. Just go. Have a good time. Usually if a hurricane is coming, they have hurricane parties as long as it's under a category 3.

like barry said hurricane season (its not a new orleans or gulf coast thing its a Nation Season) is from June to November, but its very rare to get any hurricanes in june or late in the season, prime hurricane time is july -august, i would check check the weather channel online before a trip because if there are any storms they will have up to date info, you should be fine, if there are any storms coming close, hotels alert there guest in penty of time before anything is near, and they are very strict on that policey after katrina, infact every hotel i think is supposed to fully shut down now is a storm is predicted to some into the city, meaning guests and empolyees must leave in enough time. they are not playing around you should be fine.

Hurricane season starts June 1st and ends in mid-November. Don't let that keep you away from NOLA, though....if you feel the need to run, simply cross the Causeway bridge into Mandeville, Louisiana and chill out till the storm clears.
