Diamonds are ALWAYS good. As is maid service and massage. Buy her something to pamper her not something practical. If you have to go with china or cotton I would go with cotton from Victoria's Secret.

If you want to make a fun thing of sticking to the traditional list, why not. It could be fun as she can try to guess what it will be, if she knows what the list says about it. Maybe it could be a smaller present if it is a modest material that year. If your wife likes cooking or entertaining, there are lots of good china dinnerware items you could buy her, or a figurine or something like that that is a collectable. Or take her out for a chinese meal. You could get nice sheets or towels that are good quality cotton also. Good luck. I would say the thought of it and you remembering and showing her you love her and making it a good memory together is the main thing (more important than what the gift is).

Why don't you buy her a nice necklace or ring if you know her size. Buy a nice box or gift bag that the item will fit into. Cut 12 strands of different pretty coloured cotton threads to about 45cm. Tie one end of threads around the gift. Cut a hole in the shape of an x into the top of the box or side of the bag making sure length of the cuts are equal. Score across base of cuts and fold back so you have a neat opening. Tie the other end of threads together and pull through opening leaving about 7cm dangling. Your wife will then have to pull on the threads to discover her anniversary present. Hope you understand that? Happy Anniversary!

Jewelery is always a good choice. Does not have to be expensive. Put some thought into what she likes... what colors (red=ruby/garnet, blue=sapphire, white=pearl/opal, etc.).. does she wear bracelets... it's a nice change from earrings... etc.
A good jewelry store will have a person who can help you explore all your options... it doesn't mean you have to buy what they recommend ... you can take the recommendation to another place if you desire.
Try asking and looking at "Estate" pieces. These are usually fine jewelery piece which have been bought from estate sales. Many are one-of-a-kind, or at least not the cookie-cutter pieces of many modern pieces. Furthermore, since they are (technically) used jewelery (the stores will always clean/polish/etc. them, of course... and make them very presentable!) the prices you get can be a great savings. I have a topaz ring which cost me "only" $150, which would have cost me 2-3 times that if the piece had been new... but no one has ever said to me, "Hey, is that used jewelery?"
Good luck in your search! ENJOY the hunt... AND the "rewards"!!! ;)

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

Unless your wife is ultra traditional I would steer away from both of those. Women prefer something that shows thought & sentiment. Give her something that symbolizes a special memory that the two of you have together.
