place baking soda on the wound

Hold a slice of plain, white bread on his pad and apply light pressure. It always works when a dog's nail has been cut into the quick! If the bleeding refuses to slow doing this, use a styptic pencil or some powdered alum to stop the bleeding. Your dog will fuss with this, because it stings, but it will stop the bleeding. The real challenge will be to keep the dog from licking the wound too soon after the bleeding is under control!

There are some very good sound bits of advice already given. The only thing that I will add is that if it is a very, very bad cut you will have to go to the Vet.
However, if it is not too serious and you have by now stopped the bleeding one of the best healing aids is salt water. If you live by the sea and the water is fairly clean there then let your dog paddle several times a day. Otherwise you can just put some salt in a container with a little warm water and hold the dogs foot in it for a while.
Don't worry. Dogs are always cutting their pads and they always seem to survive!
Good Luck

Check to see that there's no glass still in the cut. Try flushing it with water, then hold a piece of dry gauze/cotton/rag, or whatever you have to hand. Apply direct pressure to the wound. Hold it there for a good 10-15 minutes and then slowly release it. Hopefully, the bleeding will have stopped.

If it's still bleeding, check to see if it's slowed down. If it has, reapply direct pressure. If the blood is flowing as quickly as when you first saw it, it may be time to consider calling out an emergency vet. Your poor dog may have cut an artery, rather than a vein.

Make sure there is no glass in there, rince it and put a clean cloth on it and hold it on with pressure until it stops bleeding. Might need to wrap it up in something I'm not sure. If it's a deep one or doesn't stop bleeding call the emergency vet. You can usually contact the emergency vet by calling your normal vet number and they will give you the emergency number on the answer phone message. Even if it does stop bleeding I would take him to the vet to have it checked out to make sure it's ok.

Apply pressure for about 5 minutes then take some corn starch and apply it to the wound. Corn Starch will stop the bleeding completely. After applying the Corn Starch cover the wound with a rag, tie it around the foot securely so the dog dosen't get it off.

I am a Veterinary Technician, and it is important that you take your dog to the vet. Even if you get the bleeding to stop (which you may do by applying constant pressure), it is important for him to get on antibiotics right away to prevent an infection. If you wait, an infection or abscess could develop & turn into a much more serious, painful & expensive problem.

Clean it up first, then use a clean cloth to apply pressure on wound. After the bleeding stops, bandage it up. I suggest making a little boot or a cast for the paw so that it wouldn't hurt to much when your dog walks around.

Clean cloth. Hold it on the cut until the bleeding stops. If the cut is deep, however, it will need to be seen by the vet.
