When I was growing up, my parents bought me an unbelievably difficult astronomy book which I still keep to this day. It is probably factually incorrect in many ways and it is long outdated.

But I have always deduced this BOOK to be an effort at understanding the cosmos, the universe, the unexplainable. The book is worded very sternly, but there are numerous pictures, including galaxies, artists' renditions of planets, moons and asteriods, diagrams of the transition of heat and matter under circumstances, and not forgetting every constellation available to a typical telescope. It was a revelation and still is: the ultimate revelation. That we are anything but put here as a 'plan'.

This is MY Bible. It may be false now, and thus updated, but so has every other book in sheer existence - including the very interpretation of each book.

How could any holy Book ever teach me otherwise? From what I have learnt, from my own book - its sucesses and failures - and otherwise such?

Ummm not forgetting the countless contradictions that this book brought between the point of God and the ingenuity of human invention but never mind! that doesn't count does it.

God people, please let me explain: this book proves truth. And also, failures and lies. This is essential as mankind is fully capable of both.

I am nearly 36 and growing very cynical about this religious MADNESS..... though my parents were not particularly religious, the school I went to forced us to believe in God and the 'stories' from the bible.
As I get older, the horrific acts of people against one another and the world are making me wonder how the HELL people can believe a GOD that is supposed to be so loving can allow this to happen.
I don't pretend to be an 'expert' about all this, I only say what I can see around me.
Though, paradoxically, I sometimes (hope??) that maybe there MIGHT be 'SOMETHING' that is there for the ones who have passed on in horrific circumstances and terrible pain, it doesn't make sense does it?
Since I had children, my world (and universe) has been turned upside down.. I am afraid for them, I have conflicting thoughts about 'God' if such a force exists.....
Yet how can such terrible things be allowed to happen by this 'God'??
Some days I laugh at these religious people and shake my head at the stories they tell.
Some days I stop and listen... And wonder........

Do you understand that a child will get a better scientific Education at a private Catholic school than a public one? Christianity is not anti-Science. Gregor Mendal a Catholic monk Was one of the first men to pioneer and and test the theory of genetics? There is an infinitely longer list of Catholic and Christion Scholars and Monks that pioneered Various facets of science. Medicine, Astronomy, genetics, Nuclear Physics, the list goes on.

One of the most common Atheist Mistakes is, they believe Science and Christianity refuse to Co-exist, when in fact the Contrary is true.

We know so much about science and literature in part because during the dark ages when populations were largely illiterate the only Non-noble learned men were clergy. Even then Nobles often learned very little about science. It was considered unessessary to their future. These prayerful devoted men perpetuated most of what we know today. They set building blocks and built on foundations when no one else was capable.

What amazes me are the 'answers' to some of the questions here. A non-believer will put some question in that shows something about the Bible being wrong or contradictory, and Christians will still warp and/or twist everything to somehow prove to themselves (or any other delusional Xian) that its valid.
Sometimes, I find interesting explanations but never have I read anything that makes it realistic.
I think some valid philisophical ideas are in there, but Greek mythology has just as much, if not more, and no one is gullible enough to think it's the 'truth'.

It is pretty easy. Unlike your old astronomy textbook, the Bible is timeless and consistent in what it teaches. From Genesis to Revelations the theme of the Bible is the same:

Ecclesiastes 12:13 ¶ This is the last word. All has been said. Have fear of God and keep his laws; because this is right for every man.

Everything else in the Bible is comentary about how to achieve this.

Not at all. In fact, the situation of the 21st century was so clearly foretold by the ancient prophets, under the inspiration of God, that it drives me to study my Bible ever more.

What your book did was inspire you, but you have found it's revelation to mostly be in error.

The Bible has never been contradicted by factual science. On the contrary - the facts of science bolster it over and over.

Even Stephen Hawking says there is an origin and a "source" of the universe that cannot be explained from within the universe. ie: something beyond space and time created space and time. The Bible said that 3,000 years ago, my friend.

So you cling to outdated beliefs that are only 50 years old!

Jesus was doing CPR 2,000 years ago, maybe you should pay attention to him.

Time line time.

Universe 14-15 billion
Earth 4-5 billion

Do the math that's 2/3

Genesis, a book written more than 3,000 years ago

Creation on day 1
Sun and Earth in place on day 4

That's 2/3 the way on a 6 day scale

Man came about last, at the end of the 6th day just before God Rested.

In Carl Sagan's timeline we are in the first hour of the last day of the month and that is when man came.

First hour of 30th day or last minutes of 6th day

Six of one half dozen of another

The Bible is DOCUMENTED at 3,000 years old

Fathom that for a little while

Fathom this

In the Bible is a passage about a MAN MADE OF METAL who ATE A ROLL OR PARCHMENT AND SPOKE

I used to feed green punch tape into computers back in the 1970s and 1980

I have a speech synthezier on my computer. I can feed it text and it will talk it to me.

Now, remember the Bible is DOCUMENTED at being 3,000 years old, not 50, not 100. 3,000 years old

TALKING ABOUT METAL MEN WHO SPEAK WHEN THEY EAT A PARCHMENT ROLL

So you keep your little outdated book by Dr. Fred Hoyle (bet that's the one, ain't it!) and I'll keep looking in my Bible for the next discovery or invention or device or high tech tool used by God and the Angels and Jesus

You know, like that flaming sword

Flame throwers were very effective in World War II, 3,000 years after the Bible was written.

Are you a believe in Pluto.

Hey, what PROOFS exist to determine that WAVE UNDULATIONS can pin point a LIFE PLANET

and WHY after 40 years and billions of dollars in PROBES can't we pin point LIFE on MARS yes or no!

When did SCIENCE start practising Voodo and Astrology with this WAVE UNDLUATION nonsense or did I miss a probe to Alpha Centauri that provied a PROOF

Is that not HOKUS POKUS

How do we explain to people in 2,000 years that SCIENCE got it all wrong for 2,000 years and WAVE UNDLATIONS don't mean DOODLY SQUAT

That's SCIENCe

POSTULATION OF WAVE UNDULATION=LIFE PLANET

What is REALLY means is WE SEE SOMETHING but DON'T TRULY KNOW WHAT IT ALL MEANS

Why can't they just come out and say that

faith isn't laziness and it is not brainwashing. no longer a large type of the time, a minimum of. there's a large type of knowledge to returned this up. At one time, the church provided each and all the solutions. that may not so anymore. The church now components in basic terms solutions that technological information can not grant, and does not attempt to argue with technological information. Posts like yours keep making me think of of the southpark episode with the otters and that all of them are at conflict over a thank you to worship technological information the terrific. Your atheist ideals are basically as indoctrinated and obdurate as a Christian's ideals. Do you relatively think of that your determination to no longer have faith in a god is from now on rational that a determination TO have faith in a god? nicely of direction you do, yet you're incorrect. maximum religions are as logical by using fact the subsequent, which includes atheism (particular, atheism is a faith). It replaced into Descartes who stated, "i think of, subsequently I exist". this is all you will possibly make certain of. each little thing else is faith. And in case you have got faith we are able to splice fish DNA right into a tomato, why can not you think God did a sprint gene splicing of his own with a rib? Atheism makes me unhappy. without God, we are only piles of organic and organic rely moving around on a rock, a notably complicated chemical reaction. If that's what you want, positive. yet i'm extra beneficial than that. relatively what i do unlike approximately questions like those, is A) it is not a question in any respect. you do no longer care why human beings nevertheless have faith, you in basic terms want to unfold your message like a shameless televangelist. And B) you're attempting to interrupt human beings's faith. and that's basically incorrect. Why do no longer you're taking a step returned and learn your own ideals?

It's foolish to disbelieve in anyone who you have never met. If there's no evidence either way, it's better to tentatively remain undecided until further evidence comes to light. Don't let high pressure sales pitches from religious organizations urge you to make a decision without really knowing if it's the right thing or not.

I have never met your next door neighbors, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist. It would be foolish for me to come to a conclusion before truly knowing.

science and religion go hand in hand

your book explains how everything works thats great!
how does that make God non existent?

to me..it explians how God made stuff

i love science and im a Christian!

try reading the bible. esp. the New Testament. it teaches great morals and how to live a good life!

if you dont understanbd the bible, then you cant judge it
it would be stupid of me too say that astronomy is a lie and its all false if i dont know anything about it!

same goes for you. dont diss what you dont understand!

God bless

Barren- your mind is being controled by the spirit of death. That's why you cannot see the God of life, the creator of every living thing. You'd rather believe in a book written by a man or woman who was inspired by science, rather than believing in a book written by men that were inspired by the infinite, omniscient one. I don't blame you, you've been blind folded. Just as we all are sometimes. I've been blindfolded by my circumstances, feeling unblessed because of my job and career and finances, when in fact I'm truly blessed, to know that God is real. I hope that you will come to know HIM and that you will receive HIS resurrection not a resurrection of the flesh but of the spirit. I'm believing God to raise some dead things in my life and I pray that he will resurrect you and cause you to be fruitful, not barren.

God Bless.

P.S. I'm not scolding or downing you. I've made plenty of mistakes, and had to pay.
