I get these deep cracks in my heels that hurt really bad every summer. What do you do to make them go away or keep them from cracking? lotions?

I use a callous remover and pumice stone on my dry heels, then I put lots of vaseline on my heels (before bedtime) put socks on then go to bed. After letting the vaseline soak into your feet all night long, your feet will be silky smooth.

You need to undertake a regime of putting lotion on your feet at night covered with white socks, use a pumice stone to remove portions of the callus each time you shower or take a bath.

The podiatric treatment of cracked heels may involve the following:

* investigating the cause of the problem, so this can be addressed

* removing the hard thick skin by debriding it (often the splits will not heal if the skin is not removed). This may need to be done on a regular basis. Regular maintenance may be the best way to prevent the problem.

* if very painful, strapping may be used to 'hold' the cracks together while they heal (a maintenance program after this to prevent recurrence is very important).

* prescription and advice regarding the most appropriate moisturizer or emollient.

* advice about footwear and self care of the problem.

* insoles may be used to alter the way you walk to prevent the thick skin from developing (these are indicated in cases of heel callus and are not suitable for all cases).

* a heel cup may be used to keep the fat pad from expanding sideways. This is worn in the shoe and can be very effective at prevention if used regularly.

Make sure you wash your heels daily and use cream or lotion on them. You can buy a stone or take a duel knife and scrap the bottom of your feet and heels or take $20-$30.00 and get you a professional pedicure.

BE SURE TO CLEAN YOUR FEET WITH A PUMICE STONE,TO GET RID OF THE DRY SKIN.ITS BEST TO SCRUB THEM WITH THE STONE,WHILE THEY ARE STILL WET.
IF NEEDED ADD VASOLINE AT NIGHT,YOU NEED TO GREASE THEM REAL GOOD,THEN PUT ON SOCKS,TO SLEEP IN..

I've found that vitamin E oil works great and not that expensive.
