Why Is my face RED AND ITCHY when I use Benzoyl Peroxide? I put it on about 9:30 then slept at 10 and then woke up at 5:30 am and my face was red, itchy, and hurted. It was 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and almost burned my face for an example! What should I do to remove the swelling or anything like that? I used Salicylic Acid but it was a little expensive so I switched to BP then this happend. Any tips? Thanks

You know the feeling you get when you pour it on a cut? It feels sort of tingly and irritating? That's because it's eating the protein (flesh) away. And when you put it on your face, it's doing the same thing. I'm wondering if you put it on after scrubbing? Not good, if so. In fact, peroxide isn't good for your skin. I found that out like you are- When I was a teenager, I used it on my skin hoping it would help clear up my acne. But because my skin is so sensitive, it would eat some of it away, causing it to get really itchy, turn red, flare up and burn. At least try diluting it with water and see if that helps. Mix it one part peroxide, 4 parts water. If it doesn't help, just quit! Good luck.

My daughter and I have problems with Benzoyl Peroxide also. If you have sensitive skin at all, Benzoyl Peroxide can be irritating. I would go back to the Salicylic Acid, that works best for us with no irritation.

Wow, salicytic acid does that to me, but I guess you're more sensitive to benzoyl per. I suggest using a moisturizer after you put on BP -- wait till it dries in a few minutes, and just put on a layer of moisturizer (preferable an oil free one)

Also, how are you using it? You shouldn't have it as a mask, unless it specifically says you can, and then for only 5 minutes. If you're doing a spot treatment, then don't put a heavy layer on the spots, and try to keep it on for about half an hour to an hour.

Yea, BP does that - you can buffer those effects with real lavender oil OR try Phisoderm, it has salicylic acid and cheaper than Dr. Murad but you also don't get all the herbals that he puts together in his products

You can immediately try some honey - it can be antiinflammatory - but not processed kind - real organic good stuff

If you have sensative skin. Try Aveno Clear complexion bar. It keeps my skin really calm and clear. Follow up with an alcohol free toner and try an oil free lotion. If it doesn't help up the lotion to a mild acne free lotion. If it burns going on, it's not going to give you that clear skin you are looking for. plus give it time. It's much more gentle, so it's going to take a little longer to help clear things up.

It is too strong for your skin type! Stop using it!
