You find an emergency clinic that is open 24/7 and get in the car and drive your pet to the hospital.
You do not sit on the computer waiting for someone to give you a pass and tell you it is ok to wait until the morning.

Most vets have an emergency hotline. Call the vets phone number and it should be on their answering machine. You will probably have to pay an extra $50 for the late night call but it will be worth it if your dog is that ill.

what do you mean too late? take the dog to an emergency vet, and i mean, like, NOW
if they're in your area, look up VCA because most of their places are open 24/7. my friend works at their headquarters, they're everywhere i'm sure you can find one. also, there are animal ambulance services but i don't know where you are, so google "animal ambulance _" insert your city, they'll come pick you up.
if by too late you mean he's really old and the vet has already told you he's dying and there's nothing they can do, just make him comfortable. hug him, tell him he's a good dog. kiss him. tell him how much you love him and what a good companion he's been. (oh christ now i'm going to cry).
i'm so sorry if it is too late. that's heartbreaking. check with your vet for a pet bereavement support group, they're free and really helpful even if you don't think you need one. i'm sorry.

First how do you know it's to late and why did you wait??
I had a dog that had a heart attck now I've worked in vets offices and knoew what was happening. The heart was just so fast. we just help her and made sure she knew she was loved right up to the time she died.
Thereeare emergency vet it's more humane to take it to the vets and have put down. The reason we didn't is as I said I know what was happening and the emergancy vet was about 1 1/2 hour drive and we know she wouldn't make it that far. ( it only took 10 minutes)

Start digging a grave?? Why is it too late for the vet?? Don't have an emergency vet? They nearly all have a number you can call or a forwarding service that you can get hold of someone.. If it's too late, it's cause you aren't doing what you are supposed to do as a responsible caring pet owner..

If your animal is still alive then it's never too late for a vet. If you think it is dying and can't be treated then a vet is still the right choice because they can at least help keep it from suffering or give it something to keep it comfortable for whatever time it has left.

Ask someone who is an expert at being a care taker of dogs. And if they don't know, go to a vet. If my dog was ill and it was too late I would do anything for it. But don;t let the vets talk you into putting it down. They can be like that sometimes.

Call your vet's number and see if they give a number for an after-hours vet - kinda the ER for animals. Or look for one in your local phone book.
