Look at your barrel, it will tell you. But yea, a Remington 870 12 gauge will shoot the 2 3/4" shell. You do need to see if it can fire the 3 inch though.

My Super Sport 12 gauge says on the barrel for 3"- (2 3/4 or 3 inch shells)

Thank God I am not the only person who suffers from CRS. Yes, an 870 can shoot a 2 3/4 shell. Look on the side of the barrel; it is stamped with shell length capability. In a 3" magnum you can also shoot anything shorter; in the 3 1/2" magnum the same hold true.

Yes. Usually it can also shoot the 3" so look on the barrel. It should be marked 2 n 3/4" n 3" shells. If it shoots 3" it'll also shoot the 2 n 3/4" shells.

yes a 2 3/4" shell is a standard size, but dont try a 3" or a 3 1/2" shell unless your 870 is a magnum or a super magnum.
standard 870 shoots 2 3/4" shells
magnum 870 shoots 2 3/4" and 3" shells
super magnum 870 shoots 2 3/4", 3" and 3 1/2" shells

Also slug shells are a totally different matter. They will destroy a choke on your gun.

Yes if it is chambered for 3" or 2 3/4". If it is chambered for 2 3/4" it can not shoot a 3" shell. Keep the 3" chamber clean though. @ 3/4 " shells will leave a lot of burnt powder etc. at the end of the chamber.

Yes it can. All Remington shotguns can handle 2-3/4 shells as a base.

Yes, it shoots 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells, nothing bigger than 3.

Yes, pretty much all shotguns shoot that size round and it should say somewhere on the gun. A lot of them are engraved on the barrel with all that information.

Yes
It must say 3" or 3 1/2" before you can use them. The 2 3/4 is standard.

it will shoot the 2 3/4'' but you need to check for any bigger shell.
